WISH Away The Pounds - Awesome August Challenge - Everyone Welcome

Happy Hump Day!! Whoop! QOTD Wednesday, August 14:

It's Whoohoo Wednesday! Share something that you are celebrating today, this week, or even this month :)

Thanks for coaching this week, Jill! :thanks:

No problem! I like coaching because it keeps me in check :)

I really, really love swimming and doing the riverwalk at my local community center. A lot of times I feel like I don't like running, although obviously I do or I wouldn't keep doing it, right? :confused3

:thumbsup2

I eat at my desk too much.
I do things because they are easy or I'm too tired.
My self control goes to pot when I am tired.

Mostly I try to be aware of them and avoid them. It is a work in progress. I'm sure planning better would help all of these.

I found that I cannot have any snacks at work or I will eat them all...usually all at once! Do you plan meals at all? I usually only plan dinners but have an idea of what I am eating for breakfast and lunch. I am thinking of trying to plan all meals and snacks because I think I'll do so much better.

Not planning my meals. If I don't think ahead my mind decides that I don't care and I will eat whatever. even just knowing that I am thinking about what my next meal is going to be keeps me from grazing all day.

I'm exactly the opposite. If I don't have a plan, I just eat everything and don't usually track it. Do you track your food at all? I find that that helps as well as planning.

I would have to say my biggest habit, is emotional eating and then followed closely by having nothing planned for meals. When I am working it is great, I have my meals scheduled and measured and I have no real time to just graze. Except for that darn candy box!! But even with that when I am in the groove, I can resist it. Its when things get crazy at home or with other coworkers that I am more inclined to dip into the box. When I am not working and if I have nothing planned, I tend to snack more or I am tempted to just have a "little" extra. But more often than not, a little will lead to a lot and then I feel even worse!! :sad2:

I feel like I could've wrote this! I eat more sugary things when I am stressed and if I don't plan, I just eat waaaaayyyy too much!

As for stratagy, when I am working I just try to walk away from the box and the issues that are stressful. I work to have a life, I don't live to work. I have to keep remembering that when things get frustrating and I am learning to let most of these things go. As for when I am home, I am trying to plan ahead for meals and snacks. Having healthy options available is always a goal that I mostly achieve. But then there are those days.....:faint:

This is awesome! Keep thinking this and hopefully it will keep your emotional eating in check. Having healthier snacks and no junk food is always a good strategy.

It an ongoing process and one that I will have to be working on for the rest of my life! :goodvibes

Yes...a healthy lifestyle is daily work.

Jill I am with you on soda. I love, LOVE, LURVE soda and sweet tea. I am very impressed with ppl that do not drink soad either. I do not do Diet anything. I like real sugar/cane sugar soda. throwback Pepsi YUMMO. I worked for Chick-fil-A for 15 years so sweet tea kept all our staff going and pretty much what I drank all day everday so it is really difficult not to have tea. To combat it? I have water by my desk. We do not have a tea maker at my office so that helps. The kitchen faces an office and I have told her to not let me have a soda. If I walk out with one call me out (loudly) at what i am doing. So far it has worked. ;)

I also love sweet tea! When we go south for vacation, I cannot wait to get my hands on some. I also keep water with me at all times at work and usually home. I'm laughing at your kitchen office story. I told DH that if he sees me with a soda today, he is allowed to take it off me and dump it on my head :lmao: Hopefully, it doesn't come to that!

I have another sabotage. MY DH. I love him but he does not help. If he knows I am trying to lose weight without him even realizing it, he sabotages me. "Hey, lets drink some wine for dinner. Hey I bought you your favorite chocolate bar. Hey, lets go out for dessert. Lets go see a movie and have DD stay at your mom's house. I want Frito Chili Pie for dinner. Hey I went by Sonic and got you blah blah"
On and on. He pouts if I have a salad and made them something else to eat or if I just say no thank you.

It's very hard to try to change your lifestyle with a DH who isn't trying to change his. I've found with my DH and kids that I eat just a smaller portion if they want something like pizza. I make extra veggies or salad as well. I hope he see that supporting you is better for everyone!

Luckily I get up before him and workout (Jillian Michaels sucks!) and I pack all lunches. So my breakfast and lunch with snacks are great M-F. At home if he wants something unhealthy I make it but then I eat on a much smaller plate and say I am not hungry. With it being 5 thousand degrees outside I can say how hot it is and water will be just fine. I am hoping by the holidays I have lost enough to splurge a teeny tiny bit.

I have a love/hate relationship with Jillian. :rotfl2:

OK that was really long. Sorry :rolleyes1

Don't apologize. That's why we are all here. This is a great place to vent, get support, laugh, cry, or do whatever you want!

Not so long, and very sounds a lot like me! Except exercising in the morning. I'd throw up!

Food question. If you are tracking calories, do you best guess homemade stuff? My bread recipe is from an older cookbook so it doesn't have a calorie count. Any tips?

I use the LiveStrong app on my IPOD to track. Not the full version, the simple/free one. :thumbsup2

I track points with ww, so if I make something homemade, I just try to find the nutrition for anything close to it online. Sometimes I can find a close recipe on allrecipes and sometimes I just pick a restaurant item that seems close enough. Hope that helps :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning all :wave2:
I never made it back here last night because we got home late and had to get the kids to bed. I had a blast at my friend's parents. There were so many kids and I only saw my 7 year old 2 times in 4 hours! And, of course one of those was when they brought out stuff to make ice cream sundaes :) They have a huge back yard that connects to the neighbors behind them and they leave the gate open so the kids can play in both yards. It was nice to catch up with my friends from school (some of whom I've know since kindergarten and we are now getting ready to turn 37). Plus, there was delicious food (some healthy and some not). Overall, it was a great evening.
Today DH is going kayaking with a friend so I will probably hang out and get some cleaning done. I got some books from the library yesterday so I will probably read as well. Nothing too exciting happening here! I'll be back in a bit to check in. Have a good day.
Jill
I do this all the time. Try this website: http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/recipe_analysis.php and enter your recipe. It does all the calculation for you. I then take the nutrition analysis and create a custom food entry in my calorie counting program (I use fitday.com, but this should work with yours as well). It takes a little bit of work entering in the data the first time, but if you're like me, you'll use the same recipes over and over.
For me, strict calorie counting is the ONLY way I can stick to a plan. I have never done WW points. I find it very helpful to know what my carbs/fats/protein balance is.
I am celebrating that I haven't gone completely crazy yet. :thumbsup2
Exercise QOTD--I like cardio best--most forms. :) Sometimes I like to exercise alone, sometimes with others. I pretty much just like to exercise.
Habits QOTD--Ugh, I am back on the coke kick--but not diet. And the more coke I drink the more I crave sugar. It's an ugly spiral. I am trying to limit it to one a day. I know it is so bad for me. And you know those just can't eat one Lay's commercials. Yep that is true. If I gave up coke and lay's chips I would probably no longer have to worry about these extra 10 pounds or so. I am using the stress excuse way too much. You know--I'm stressed, I deserve it, etc. Which is bs. My stomach was a mess yesterday after I ran--it was horrid. And it is all poor choices.
Good question. I wasn't going to answer it--didn't want to own up to stuff. Not sure how to change things except to give up the garbage yet again. And being honest, not sure if I want to. They have become my comfort foods since giving up gluten. But I am sick of feeling gross and bloated....
****
It's a little crazy at our house. Trying to pack. Still don't know where we are going to live. Our home inspection only turned up a couple of minor things so that is good. The inspector didn't really know what he was doing and some of the stuff they asked us to fix isn't broken. Fun times!
Anyhow, thank you to Jill for coaching! :)
I'm celebrating that I haven't strangled my kids this summer!! I can not wait until they go back to school!!!!!!! 1 1/2 weeks and counting.
I'm also celebrating that while I haven't lost any weight this month, I haven't gained any either.
Ok, catching up, this will be a long one! :)
http://www.halhigdon.com/writing/55759/NANCY%20CLARK%3A%20Why%20Can%27t%20I%20Lose%20Weight%26quot%3B It is about why some people who train hard don't lose weight... I think that this might have been one of the reasons why the 30 day shred that I did earlier this year was effective in toning me, but did not help me lose weight. Strangely I often noticed myself that it was easier for me to lose weight when I don't exercise or only exercise a little than when I was trying to exercise a lot...
Interesting! I have thought about this with running. I've gained/maintained with marathons and also maintained doing the 30 Day Shred (love JM!). Hmm, this weight loss thing is such a balance... Thanks for the link!
I did get a 4 mile walk in this morning! woo hoo!!! the longest I've done yet this leg of my journey!
Great job! :)
How was the farmer's market? Did you sell a lot? We had a big community event last weekend and there was a cupcake/bakery there. I tried a sample of their coconut cake. It was delicious! The cupcake was actually like almond joy, but I didn't buy one. I think it was coconut cake with chocolate frosting and almonds on top. I have a weakness for cupcakes. Do you have a website? ...So, I am very happy to have a full time job with health insurance for me and my 2 children, but I am stressing about how this is going to go!
Those are two good things to keep in your mind when you want to stress! I might give up a toe for good health insurance right now ;) Hoping the transition is smooth and you're not overwhelmed with workload :goodvibes The market did go well, thanks! We've either sold out or been within a few of (this was week 6 out of 7) and its a great feeling. I love coconut! One if mine this week was a gluten-free, grain free chocolate coconut cake, filled with chocolate hazelnut spread, topped with mocha Swiss meringue buttercream and cocoa powder. Seriously yum. We're working on a site right now. I'm debating starting with just a FB page though. I do mostly carved cakes and weddings and just by word of mouth, stay pretty busy. I don't really want to maintain a website until we really need one. Plus, FB is just so easy :) Hubby is out of town for the last summer market this week, so a friend offered to help hold down the fort with me :) I told her I'd pay her in cupcakes :goodvibes
On 8/8 we celebrated 18 years of marriage. :cheer2:
Congratulations!
I am celebrating that I haven't gone completely crazy yet. :thumbsup2
Hahaha! Possibly the best answer for this question!! :)
Exercise QOTD- Running, circuit training in the gym (Making the Cut by JM is awesome!), and definitely alone. I'm easily distracted... :)
Habits QOTD- Usually it's late night eating as well, but not planning has been the thing lately. As in, not doing a very good job keeping food for whole meals in the fridge. For a while, I was batch cooking and doing a big cook up on Sundays, but once that got thrown off with a change in our schedules, I've not been nearly as good. Something to work on this month for sure!
Celebrations QOTD- Getting back into a workout schedule. This past week I've started actually rearranging my schedule to fit in workouts and am excited about exercising again. I think coming off gluten has really upped my energy and it feels great to be fully awake for the first week in a looong time!
Hi Guys, I'm back from my few days away and have just spent time updating the spreadsheet....quite a few people have not sent in a weight for 9th August, so I'll just leave them blank. I'll be updating post #3 tomorrow with some colour, just in time for next WI....promise to be quicker next week!!!!! (No days away!!)
In response to QOTD so far (Thanks Jill).......
Exercise....running is my fave, preferable outside. Small problem with that tho....managed to save £85 for a pair of Brooks Ravenna 4, but then managed to put my iPod Nano through the washing machine at the weekend and it's totally dead!, so which is needed the most??? shoes or iPod???? Think the iPod will win, and I'll managed for a couple more months with my existing New Balance shoes.
Bad habit......picking whilst cooking. Not too bad if it's healthy stuff, but cheese is my real weakness.
Celebrating....hmmmmmm, nothing in particular right now, but 50th birthday in November and 20th wedding anniversary in December.
I am celebrating my first half on Saturday (even though I am walking) and then my first 10k (run/walking) the 25th :)
Yesterday we celebrated by husband's 40th birthday.
Yay! Happy birthday!
On 8/8 we celebrated 18 years of marriage. :cheer2:
Congrats!
Whoop! More celebrations! Happy birthday and congrats.
Well that's good news :thumbsup2
You definitely are great at it!
Funny...that's why I asked, because I am having a problem with soda right now. I'm feeling plain yucky and wondering if anyone had the same problems. I could've written what you wrote. The whole stress BS and bloating is how I am feeing and it isn't pretty. We can get through this!
Thanks! I'm glad to hear you don't have to make any huge improvements for the new owners. Hopefully this will be a fast, smooth sailing process for you the rest of the way.
I'm celebrating that I haven't strangled my kids this summer!! I can not wait until they go back to school!!!!!!! 1 1/2 weeks and counting.
I'm sure lots of parents feel this way :rotfl2:
I'm also celebrating that while I haven't lost any weight this month, I haven't gained any either.
Not gaining any weight is a good thing to celebrate :thumbsup2
That cupcake sounds amazing! If you start a Facebook page, let us know. I'd love to follow you. I think your friend got a good deal with getting paid in cupcakes.
Exercise QOTD- Running, circuit training in the gym (Making the Cut by JM is awesome!), and definitely alone. I'm easily distracted... :)
I haven't heard of Making the Cut. I'll be looking this up later as I am always looking for a new workout and need to add strength training back into my routine. Thanks for mentioning it.
Habits QOTD- Usually it's late night eating as well, but not planning has been the thing lately. As in, not doing a very good job keeping food for whole meals in the fridge. For a while, I was batch cooking and doing a big cook up on Sundays, but once that got thrown off with a change in our schedules, I've not been nearly as good. Something to work on this month for sure!
I would love to do a big batch of cooking, but I just don't have time of the weekends! What do you like to make the most? How long does it usually take you?
Celebrations QOTD- Getting back into a workout schedule. This past week I've started actually rearranging my schedule to fit in workouts and am excited about exercising again. I think coming off gluten has really upped my energy and it feels great to be fully awake for the first week in a looong time!
Great job fitting in the exercise and getting the gluten thing all straightened out. I'm glad that you are feeling better.
In response to QOTD so far (Thanks Jill).......No problem :)
Exercise....running is my fave, preferable outside. Small problem with that tho....managed to save £85 for a pair of Brooks Ravenna 4, but then managed to put my iPod Nano through the washing machine at the weekend and it's totally dead!, so which is needed the most??? shoes or iPod???? Think the iPod will win, and I'll managed for a couple more months with my existing New Balance shoes.
Oh no. That's a tough call. I love to listen to music, especially on long walks or runs. But, shoes are so important. I think I would actually pick the shoes. You can always look for a cheaper iPod on the Apple site and look at refurbished. I've seen great reviews of Apple's refurbished products that they are like brand new. Maybe that'll save you some money :confused3
Bad habit......picking whilst cooking. Not too bad if it's healthy stuff, but cheese is my real weakness.
Ahhh that silly cheese!
Celebrating....hmmmmmm, nothing in particular right now, but 50th birthday in November and 20th wedding anniversary in December.
Those are big deals! I'm sure you can think of something positive happening right now :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I hope everyone had a happy hump day. I actually was very productive at home today. After dishes and laundry, I even helped DS7 build a huge Lego set that he got for his birthday...in MAY!! It definitely was a hard set for him, but we pushed through. DH had started it with him and he and I did steps 45-89 today. DH came home and finished it with him. 684 pieces later, we have a Lego Ninjago Destiny's Bounty ship. I have no idea what this thing is, but DS loves it.

I have no plans for tomorrow, so I may head into work and get some textbooks and my desk organized. I think I was so relieved that last school year was over that I just took off on the last day and didn't organize anything :rotfl2: I'll be on in the morning with a qotd and then again later on. Have a good night!

Jill

I actually did my Turbo Jam workout before work tonight!! I always plan to do it, but usually only get 6 hrs sleep on work nights so I wake up still tired. But today I pushed through & did my 20 minutes. :yay:

Some summers..... it gets close! :rotfl2:

I am celebrating my first half on Saturday (even though I am walking) and then my first 10k (run/walking) the 25th :)

Great job!! I envy all you runners!! I am hoping one day I can join in, if my knees hold out! :yay:

You need to remember the bolded next time you want the coke.
I feel you hon, I really do. There are days when I sniff coke that the kids drink. I have those days too since giving up chocolate, man I hope that craving goes away.
But I also want you to remember this:
Yesterday I took DS12 to the Dr for heart palpitations. And now he has to get a 30 day event heart rate monitor.
Potential culprit?? Soda!!! Every event he's had for the last 2 weeks has been after having soda. He is banned from all caffeine for now, the whole family is.
There is nothing scarier than having your son freaking out because he feels spacy and his heart is racing. And it's all because of something he drank, something that 99% of the population drinks every day.

So just stop!!! You're body will love you for it! :love:

OK, stepping off my soap box now.......... :goodvibes

So just stop!!! You're body will love you for it! :love:

OK, stepping off my soap box now.......... :goodvibes

I'm going to step back on the soap box now in your place, lol. I think I have finally kicked the soda habit and the thing that motivates me is the reading I've done on how bad the stuff really is. Here's a couple of articles for starters:

http://www.emedexpert.com/tips/soft-drinks.shtml

http://health.yahoo.net/experts/eatthis/3-shocking-soda-facts

My family medical history is such that I have good reason to watch what I eat/drink and take care of my health. My father died of pancreatic cancer at age 62 and my mom has Type II Diabetes. I'm watching my sister-in-law battle breast cancer (she's experiencing the 3rd recurrence now) and it is certainly not anything I ever want to go through. The chemical additives so many people take into their bodies without a second thought are seriously SCARY STUFF.

OK, I''ll be quiet now. :flower3:

Good morning everyone! So many wonderful accomplishments!!!!

It's Whoohoo Wednesday! Share something that you are celebrating today, this week, or even this month :)

I hit 50 pounds lost last week on my 9 month anniversary day! Pretty proud of that! I've been stuck between 40-50 pounds lost for a long, long time. So glad to have finally broken that barrier!

Running a little late today, sorry!

What is your health plan? Do you track calories or points? Do you have a set workout schedule? Do you sleep enough? Share with us your healthy plan :)

I track my food with My Fitness Pal and I try to work out at the very least 5 times per week doing at least 45 minutes of some sort of cardio. I also throw in some strength training in the mix. I run, walk and elliptical mainly for the cardio stuff.

I've been tracking my sleep with my fitbit as well and I've noticed that I can usually average about 7 hours per night but often I'm very restless. Not really sure how to work on that but I'd love to try to fix that. Apparently my "best" sleep times are between midnight and 2 am.

I track my calories using the website/app My Fitness Pal. I have tried Weight Watchers online before. I was doing it alone and would lose motivavtion and slack off. Now I have several friends on My Fitness Pal to help keep me motivated. :cheer2:

I do not have a set workout schedule, but I am trying to get there. The kids started back to school last week and there are not enough hours in the day. I am lucky if I squeeze in 5-6 hours of sleep a night.:coffee:
