I had been having a bad tooth ache for the past week or so and i thought it was because i have lost a filling.

I went to my doctor today and he had a look in my mouth and he told me it looks like my wisdom tooth is coming through but some of my gum was on top of it.

I know i need to go to the dentist but now after reading some stuff on the internet about wisdom teeth im now scared as it looks like i may have to get it removed.

Anyone got any advice?

oh hun I had all 4 of mine removed so I know what that toothache can be like. A friend only had to have the one out and she was back at work the next day so try not to worry and see what an x-ray shows, everyone is different ... xx

Emma,

My wisdom teeth came up in my twenties (some time ago now;) ) I went to the dentist and they performed an xray and said as they were coming up straight and as I had room in my mouth they suggested I let them come up and not remove them. I had a gap (a la Madonna) at the front of my teeth which no longer exists as they neatly closed it:thumbsup2
You may get lucky, like me:)

I would advise that you get to the dentist asap....::yes::

Thanks Joanne, I'm going to try and get in to see one in the next week or so if my other dentist hasnt rung me back with a appointment.

The pain is awful. Luckily my doctor has given me pain killers.

when they first start to come through they grow a bit then stop then grow a bit then stop can take ages, so you may get some relief from them soon then not be bothered by by them for a while, i had to have all 4 out the problem is with the bite and they normally take matching top and bottom if they take one so the other doesnt overgrow, lol i was a wimp and had to be put out though to have them done.

I hope they put me out if they need to be removed. I can't feel any of the others coming through at the moment just the 1.

I was hoping that i wouldnt get any wisdom teeth, i don't class myself as wise :lmao:

I have hellish problems with my wisdom teeth trying to come through (I have an officially small mouth- No jokes!).... They keep trying to come through (I say 'they' its more like one!) and I get put on metronidosol as theres a little flap of gum over it that won't come away.... And something called pericoronitis....Is there any chance its something like that?? It is incredibly sore so you have my utmost sympathy....

My Mum, who works at the dentist, assures me that they won't remove it unless its absolutely neccessary.....

My doctor said he could see it coming through and that the gum was over the tooth, the gum thats over it does move about when i put my tongue on it.

Will they not remove yours?

I have them underneath my gum, my dentist says they won't break through my gums(which is good as there is no room for them) however they still cause me pain at times and often get infected. The dentist said they will remove them if the continiue to cause pain.

Its just very painful.

Have taken some painkillers and i hope i get a decent kip tonight.

Thats what I had too, and they won't remove mine..... Removing them is only a last resort these days....

Try not to worry too much about it....

I guess i'll get myself to the dentist and see how it goes.

Thats how my wisdom teeth are coming through, the dentist is ok with them at the moment. I have tooth ache every couple of months when they grow a bit more then it eases off.

I hope they put me out if they need to be removed. I can't feel any of the others coming through at the moment just the 1.

I think you may have to go the hospital dentist if you want to be put out for the procedure. I would have to do the same because local anesthetic doesn't work for me. You may only ever have one growing through. I have 2 top ones but none on the bottom row. Hope you get it sorted soon, but the pain should ease off soon as another poster mentioned earlier they grow a bit then stop for a while.

I am very lucky to have never had to have anything done to my teeth not even a filling, not bad for 27 years:thumbsup2
