Wisdom Teeth Extraction - Dry Socket Question

Am_I_There_Yet, are you now scared up to your eyeballs with the dry socket stories?

Sort of like when people hear you're pregnant and launch into the childbirth stories. :rotfl2:

Yes! Every little ping I feel now, I'm like, here we go! :scared1:

2PM was my fourth day post-extraction. Not that I'm counting or anything. Watch, I'll be the odd one that gets one on the sixth day.

The funny thing is, I had natural childbirth twice (my last daughter was 9lbs!), and this scares me more than the prospect of going through childbirth again! Then again, DH has had a vasectomy.

:scared1: holy bleep! Sorry, that's the wimp in me coming out.

You can do it! As long as I don't get any dry sockets, I'll be able to say it was a piece of cake!

Speaking of cake... I bet I can eat some of that! :rotfl:

It was my choice to have them pulled, versus having them cut out by an oral surgeon. I will say the pulling was intense; not painful, just intense. Especially the top one because it had a very long root. But really, I've had no pain or discomfort, with the exception of some jaw aches from holding my mouth open for so long.

My youngest DS (12) just had this done to two baby teeth. One was loose and the perm. tooth was coming in on the side of it and the other had cracked and he was in some discomfort. Even though they filled him with novacaine, he described it as strong pressure without pain. It totally freaked him out and about 1/2 way through I was sorely regretting not taking him to an oral surgeon. I think the combination of the pressure and the sounds you must hear in your head totally got to him. (Isn't like creaking wood?) If he has any more teeth that need to come out, he definitely is the type that needs a bit of anesthesia.

There was a point where I was fixing to tell him time out. What was strange, was that I couldn't even tell which one he was working on. That's how numb I was. It really felt like my jaw was moving in directions that it's not supposed to move.

And yes, the cracking is not a pleasant sound. There are just certain things a person isn't supposed to hear, and that's one of them! Plus, I could see his arms shaking, so I know he was putting an enormous amount of pressure to get them out.

Had my wisdom tooth out last week and have had terrible sinus problems since then.

anyone else experience this and if so..please tell me it goes away

I've had 3 impacted taken out, but had one "floater" near my sinus's, and decided not to have it taken out - my surgeon said 50/50 if it was his tooth, and the only reason he would do it was the fact that after having the 3 out, I'd never come back (and after the dry socket, he is SO right - I'd rather have a limb removed).

Was it an upper? If so that is not totally uncommon. You might need an antibiotic though.

Well, today is the wonderful day five! :woohoo:

My back, right socket has caved in. I don't think it caved in the whole way, or the whole width, but there is definitely a hole there. The good news, is all I see is gums inside the hole. I'm thinking that maybe just the top of the clot dissolved?

Better yet, I'm still in no pain. I just wonder how this will play out, me having a caved in area for food to get trapped in. I wonder if it'll fill back in as it heals?

I'll be so glad when this is totally over and I'm 100% healed!

Why oh why did I click on this thread?!!? My entire mouth is hurting now!!!

AHHH!!! :scared1: When I had my wisdom teeth out I had a dry socket and the pain was terrible. This is bringing back the memories.

I'm glad to hear you are doing just fine. I had to read the entire thread to make sure you were just fine. Why didn't I just skip to the end though? :confused3 ;)

Yeah, I guess three pages full of pain, clots, cracking and pulling, isn't the way to start off a Monday, huh?

This thread makes me SO happy that all 4 of my wisdom teeth did not grow in! By the time I hit 18, my dentist was like if they are not here now they are never coming in. :cool1:

Hope everyone who had teeth out is feeling better!!!

My youngest daughter was born without the two teeth on either side of her front teeth... and no wisdom teeth. As much as she hated the years and years and YEARS of braces, she knows she lucked out!

I had dry socket in both of my lower extractions. The day it hit, I was up the whole night crying. I would say it was worse pain than when I would have a gallbladder attack. I knew something was up the day before and went for a look-see, and the surgeon claimed all was well except for food getting stuck in there. He rinsed it out and sent me on my way. Next day...dry socket. Argh.

Okay as for why one should have his or her wisdom teeth removed, wisdom teeth can cause crowding issues, these crowding issues can lead to gum issues, which can then lead to all kinds of fun stuff. Also it is very difficult to property clean and floss your wisdom teeth, so they eventually get cavities or worse. Ifyour dentist recommend they come out, then you really should.

Just checking in. Are you doing ok?

I feel great! :)

The back one is still just as caved in, but I feel fine. I just scheduled my appointment to have my stitches removed for Thursday, and I'm curious to hear what he has to say about it. I hope it heals and evens out, or it's gonna be a pain in the rear.

So far, I've heard worse than: childbirth; having your arms ripped out; and now a gallbladder attack.

I'd say I consider myself lucky!

I had my wisdom teeth out 3 1/2 years ago and there are still dents back there. LOL I had holes for a long time and I could stick my tongue in them. I just made sure to rinse well after eating. :)
