Wisdom Teeth Being Removed--What to eat?

Thanks so much for everyone's help!! I really appreciate it!! I always know when I have a problem, I can come to the DIS for answers.

Anyway, called the dentist and was told it's most likely not the stitches, just the end pieces hanging out. No need to worry...I'm just afraid of dry socket, lol.

Yup, the end parts of the stitches drove me CRAZY!!! Whatever you do, do not mess with them!

Oh trust me, I won't!!! I don't play around like that! Just worried now about eating anything with them hanging out, but as long as it's not hard, I'm pretty sure it won't pull on them.

I didn't have any problem eating with them. If you keep the food away from that area it will be better. Also be sure to do the salt water rinse after you eat. I probably went overboard with the rinse, but I thought it was better to play it safe then sorry.

Oh, salt water? Was never told that. Instead I was prescribed an antibiotic rinse to do twice a day. Wonder if I should do both?

I had 3 of my wisdom teeth taken out today and I've got the ends of the stitches sticking out from where one of my bottom teeth used to be. I had to look into my mouth with a flashlight to see what they were!

My left side is doing OK, but the right side is where I had both taken out, so that part is all swollen. I got the nitrus oxide instead of being knocked out (I was greatly re-thinking that decision when they were digging out that bottom tooth!)...so I got to hear one of the teeth breaking when it came out, and all the fun dentistry sounds when the bottom one had to be dug out. It looked like the dentist was tying shoelaces over my mouth when he put the stitches in! :scared1:

But he did a great job (I didn't hear/feel the last tooth come out at all), and I'm feeling much better than I thought I would. Vicoden/Motrin are working nicely, although I have a feeling this is going hurt in the morning!

I did eat a Jello pudding snack pack, and a little mac & cheese for dinner. So far, so good. I had a tooth infection leading up to this, so I haven't been eating a lot of soft foods the last two weeks.

Good luck to everyone else going through wisdom teeth surgery!!

whatever you do, don't sneeze!!!! Ds16 got his lower wisdoms out on Thursday and everything was great. On Monday I took him to Panera for soup, He sneezed two big sneezes in sucession and said, "wow, that felt wierd." Well, within seconds, he had blood pouring out on one side...in Panera...at lunchtime.:scared1: I work for a dentist, but it freaked even me out. We had to stuff napkins in there til we could get to the oral surgeon.

The surgeon said the clot was still there but loose, so he removed it and put a gel pac in. It's been okay since then, but very sore and will take longer to heal. He's terrified he'll lose the gel pac and get dry socket. The other side is fine.

SOOOO, Be careful sneezing.

If you prescribed a rinse just do that. Our dentist said to do 1/4 tsp salt in an 8 oz glass of water a couple of times a day. After a couple of days I also started to rinse with Listerine to help get that yucky filmy feeling out of my mouth.

I had dry socket. It was terrible. Even worse than when I had major abdominal surgery.

I had two wisdom teeth removed on Monday (6/30). I have to admit, I have been such a baby about these two teeth and refused to have them out for the longest time. My dentist told me they were decaying and he wanted to put a surface filling in both. I decided that it wasn't worth it to pay for fillings and possibly lose the teeth anyway--frugality overcame my fear. ;)

Turns out, I was lied to by the dentist since neither tooth had any sign of decay (according to the oral surgeon)--looks as if he was simply trying to line his pockets at my expense. He was well aware that I was terrified to have these teeth extracted and I'm sure assumed I would opt for the "surface fillings" instead. Guess I fooled him and did myself a major favor by getting the teeth out at long last.

In any event, I have had zero issues with either tooth (fingers crossed that remains status quo)--no pain killers after the extraction day, eating well and without a problem. My jaw is a little tender and I'm not opening as wide as before, but I'm sure that will pass soon. I was a major wuss though--I got the full anesthetic and was in la la land for a good bit of the day. Hey, I'm no hero--I did NOT want to hear any sounds of cracking teeth, popping, etc. I was blissfully sleeping through the procedure. ;)

Glad to hear things went well for the others too! I know I was nervous. . .just glad it's over!

Wow! Definitely was a wisdom tooth week! Glad to hear everyone seems to have had an easy surgery! Sorry about the dry sockets though! Definitely will think twice about sneezing ;) My top two "holes" don't hurt at all and only a little discomfort in my left lower one. But my right lower one is still all inflamed and hurts every so often, not excruciating, but def bothersome! Had some delicious mashed potatoes last night and pudding for lunch right now....oooo...how I want a sandwich or even just a salad right now!!!

Seriously...it's definitely wisdom teeth week! I didn't sleep well with mine last night, but I'm home today and I'm just crashing on the couch. My left side is OK, but my right looks like I have a golf ball in my chin. I think it's starting to turn a little black & blue too, which I heard is normal. I'm keeping ice on it and taking Motrin, which is helping.

But it's doing better! :)

Jen, you still have them in with that inflammation?? Or is the inflammation due to getting them out?? Hopefully you see the dr if it gets any worse!! Keep us posted!

It's due to getting them out. I had them out yesterday morning.

Hi I just wanted to put my 2 cents in here... I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out about 12 years ago (man I am getting old).. and I did good except I got a dry socket... I was in so much pain I was taking the pain medications like candy, finally I couldn't take it anymore and my mom took me to the oral surgeons office and he packed it with some sort of gauze and the pain relief I get instantly was like heaven..... so if you have any problems with just one side hurting you, and it hurts when you take a deep breath (the air going over the incision site) then call your surgeon right away..... I am glad to hear everyone is doing great....
