Where are some fun places to visit in michigan and wisconsin? Mackinaw is out cause we went there last year. We would perfer someplace other than wisconsin dells cause the kids would want to go to the water park and 2 of the 3 addults cant swim. Any advice?

What ages are the kiddos? And...what time of year are you planning on traveling? And - do you camp or are you looking for hotel/motel ideas?

And - how many days are you looking to be in either Wi or Mi?

Depending how far into WI you want to go...if you come allllll the way across the state to the Minnesota/Wisconsin border, you would then only be about 20 miles from the Mall of America.

I'm not sure about most of the rest of the state though other than the Dells. I think mostly between here and Chicago, there isn't a whole heck of alot.....I love living here, but it's not the most exciting place in the world...lol...luckily I live close to the Twin Cities though, so if we want action, we just head over the bridge (I'm right on the border) into the cities..

(just to give you an idea of distance, it takes us about 7 hours to get to Chicago ...we are about 20 miles east of St. Paul, MN) so depends on how far you want to drive)

And honestly you don't have to know how to swim to use the water parks at the Dells , most of the water slides empty into shallow pools less than 4 foot deep. My kids aren't swimmers and do just fine, so an adult should do okay as well. The Wildnerness is fun, as is Kalahari.

As far as Michigan goes (I'm originally from Toledo , only been here in Wi 3 years) Frankenmuth is always fun...especially this time of year.

Door County
Porcupine Mts in the UP
Madison
Milwaukee
visit one of the many historical sites around the state
The Dells (you don't need to be able to swim to go to the water parks)
~ there are lots of other things to do there...hiking, boat trips, the ducks, Mt Olympus, mini golf, museums
Minocqua
Port Washington/Cedarburg
Do the "touristy" stuff in Green Bay
La Crosse (hiking the bluffs)
Sleeping Bear Dunes in MI
Bayfield is gorgeous
Duluth/Superior
Rhinelander

The possibilities are ENDLESS!!

She is about 5 hours from the Mall of America.

I went to college at UW-RF and now live on the other side of the state. :)

Thats where my daughter will probably be going...We're only about 8 miles north of RF :) How did you like UWRF? That's her #1 choice and she's already been accepted. We're also looking at UW Stephens Point and a CC in Iowa (she would have a chance to play volleyball there), but since she really isn't a "go away from home" kind of girl, I think it will be UWRF.

Sorry to hijack OP! I'd say 5 hours is doable if you want to drive that far. Too me, that isn't a bad drive, but I know others prefer not to drive that far. It takes us an easy 5 hours to get to Rockford (ILL), its the rest of the 6 hours to get to Toledo that kills us..lol

Oh my! I loved LOVED RF! It's such a great campus! It's where I met my DH, where we lived the first year of our marriage and where our first child was born. :lovestruc So it obviously has a special place in my heart.

Funnily enough, I didn't graduate from there, but graduated from UW-Stevens Point after we moved. LOL

Sorry for the hijack, OP!!

OMG too funny! Thanks for the info! She is having the senior year freak out and has this mindset right now that UWRF isn't good enough . All of her friends are going away to the "big" schools and she just thinks she is "settling" for UWRF.

She's going into English/English Ed and I have heard that UWRF is one of the best in the country for that. I think alot has to do with the fact that we are so close and it doesn't feel as "exotic" as say U of M or something more exciting. :rotfl: But it's been her first choice and she is already taking youth options classes there, so she is already familiar with the campus and does like it!

Sorry again OP!!!

I think that is common when you basically go to school in your own "town". I would have to agree with her though, RF is an ok school but there are much better schools in the area, especially if she wants to go into English/English Ed. If she was going into package design, though, they are one of the best in the nation.

OP, if the adults in your group are not afraid of being in the water, there is a LOT they can do at the waterparks in water that is knee high or less. Just something to keep in mind.
