Wireless Router...HELP please!!

We're moving into a new house, and my stepdad brought over the wireless router and hooked it up. Apparently something isn't right because the internet is working (obviously) but none of our laptops can pick up the wireless signal. The green lights on the router are on. Has anyone had this problem with their router when they moved? Am I supposed to somehow re-configure the router because its now here at the new house? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! TIA

I am definitely no expert, but our office runs on a wireless system, and every once in a while, we have to reinstall the antenna hardware.

Just a guess but I would try to set up the router from scratch with the software it came with. Before that though, could it be that it's in a non-broadcasting mode, where you have to type in the SSID rather than select it from a list?

Did you plug the filter thingie that came with the router into the phone jack? The router cable must be connected directly into that in order to receive the proper (broadband) signal from the phone line.

If you have a telephone hooked up to the phone line too, there should be a signal splitter attached to the phone jack, then the filter thingie, and the phone line split off of that.

Install all the SOFTware that came with your router. Your computer might not be configured to read your router properly.

Second: Check to see if you have ANY (wired) internet signal coming though at all - not just wireless - by hooking up the yellow Ethernet cable to your router box and the other end of the cable into one of your laptops. If you do this and you still get no internet, you have a problem receiving internet. It is not a wireless problem. Call your internet company.

Don't ask how I happen to know how to check for all these problems.
