Okay, you computer experts--I need some help! I have Road Runner and a wireless router. We have two computers and an Xbox all running off the router. The one laptop and Xbox are connecting to my network(secured) fine, but my laptop is not. It senses the network and says it has an excellent connection when it is acquiring the network signal. Then suddenly, my computer changes its mind and connects to another wireless network(unsecured) nearby. I have turned off the computer and restarted it, unplugged the modem and router and left them unplugged for 15 minutes, then restarted everything, but it is still happening. Anyone know how to figure out what's going on?

Thanks!

No techno-knowledge here, but maybe your one laptop is a wanton hussy and wants to wander away with the unsecured network for a good time :teeth: ?...

And it never ceases to maze me the number of people who don't have any kind of security on the wireless systems in their homes or even their businesses. I know we can pick up quite a few around here and it boggles my mind that people don't bother to put any kind of security into place, not a simple password onto their systems.

Hope you get an answer OP ::yes:: .

agnes!

You should be able to specify the 'preferred' network for your laptop to connect with. Unfortunately, that many not work all of the time.

When it connects to the wrong network, right click the connection icon (lower right), look at the available wireless connections, and choose yours. The laptop should reconnect to the correct network.

first delete the other connection from your preferred list. then manually select ur network. mark it as preferred netowrk and connect to it.

We also have RR and my DH has the same issue with his work laptop. We can't get his to connect to our wireless network (password protected).

So he just plugs his cord into the back of the wireless router and uses the internet (to log into his company's server) that way.

I keep doing this and choose my network, but it will say it is connecting to mine and then when it says "connected", the little icon still says it is connected to the other one, UGH
