What does AKL provide in the way of wireless internet? Is it available? Is there a charge? Just trying to figure out if we should bring our laptop.
Thanks for any help.

There's no wi-fi available at AKL/AKV. There is wired internet available in the rooms, free if you're a DVC member staying on points, $9.95/day if you're not a member.

WiFi is available in the common areas of the resorts, lobby, pool area etc. for $9.95 for 24 hours. Free wired internet access is available to anyone staying at a DVC resort on points. All others pay $9.95 for 24 hours of wired access.

Or you can bring your own Apple Airport Express then you have a really nice 802.11n in your room, and/or out on your balcony.

Really, wi-fi at AKV now? I thought that was only at the convention resorts. I was there a couple of weeks ago and didn't pick up any wi-fi around the pool or lobby.

We were there in December and same thing: We didn't get a wi-fi signal down by the pool (and I checked). I didn't check the lobby, though...

The free WIRED internet in your room is sweet. We have, in the past, brought along a travel wireless router, if we're both bringing our laptops, so we can have wireless in the room.

Though many of the hotels have wi-fi in certain common areas, AKL does not.

Actually there IS wi-fi at the AKL, but it is only accessable to WDW staff. I am staying here now and I clearly pick up the signal on my Ipod Touch, but it is WEP or WPA protected and obviously the password is only available to staff.

If there is some nice staff member out there who wouldn't mind emailing it to me while I'm here...I would be very apprieciative and I won't tell anyone else! ;) ;) ;) LOL!

our wireless router at home is probably about the size of a deck of cards, or maybe a little larger, so we always just toss it in a bag, then plug it in to the wire. It works like a charm, you get the little log in screen and just click OK, since you are dvc you don't pay the 9.95 a day. You could do that if your router isn't very big it isn't a hassle.

Yes, normally when people are asking about network access they are public.

You'll see that WDW wireless network all over the place (Even good coverage in the parks.)

However, I suspect you need more than a WPA password to access it. It seems it wants a certificate as well.
