I am taking my laptop with me to WDW, so that I can hopefully submit some reports on our trip while we are there, as well as to be able to keep up with family, email, etc. We just purchased a Verizon Wireless Internet service/cell thingy and would like to make use of it at WDW this fall. I have heard that some resorts have some sort of a blocking frequency that interfers with the signal of wireless cards because those cards don't generate any revenue for Disney.

Has anyone successfully used a wireless internet card at OKW? If so, was it by chance a Verizon Wireless card? TIA Maggie

I have used a Cingular aircard at OKW without any trouble. The speed is better than dialup, but not as fast as broadband.

I have not heard about anyone having difficulty at any of the resorts and really can't see any benefit to Disney to do any signal blocking unless there are some areas at a resort where sensitive telemetry would be necessary. Many of the resorts do offer wireless access in public areas (for a fee) and any signal block would affect those areas as well. The aircard is basically a cel phone- so if your cel works, the card should also work.

I'm sure you'll be fine with your Verizon card.

Enjoy!

Just a FYI- I have a verizon wireless card and it could not be used anywhere at the Wilderness Lodge or Villas and when I asked a staff member I was told that it was because Disney would not allow the cell phone towers to come on there propery due to not being profitable for them

Well, that's not great news. My SIL has Verizon and I can always reach her by cell when she is at WDW parks and DTD. I hope that OKW will be ok. Maggie

I don't know where you heard of a place using a "blocking frequency", but that isn't the case in the US anyway. The FCC doesn't allow the use of such a device here, if one even existed.

i used my cingular air card at OKW w/out any problems. there are cleverly disguised cell towers all over wdw property. good luck!
