Winter wear for runners??

a couple things I haven't seen mentioned yet. I like light weight shell jackets that have vents under the arms and on the side and on the back. These help for wind and rain but They are lightweight enough so that you can layer under them.

Also I am thinking about a pair of Gore-Tex shoes to be more waterproof. any thoughts on those?

I run at 4:30am-5am and it's pretty dark. We don't have any street lights, etc. These things are great!

I like 'em better than headlamps and it helps others see you as well. I am planning on running the Extraterrestrial Full Moon Half Marathon down in Rachel, NV come October 2012 and it's sure to pretty dark out there. Knucklelights will come in handy (along with some cool glow sticks!)

Awesome!! I was hoping for an alternative to a headlamp. These look perfect for me! Thanks so much!!

If I run around my neighborhood in the winter, or out onto the roads, yeah, it can be pretty dark. There are plenty of wearable lights - I know that ZombieRunner has a decent selection (it's a store, not a brand), and most running stores should have something, or at least be able to point you in the right direction. If you are running in the dark, don't just think about flashlights - you will want some sort of relfective gear, just to help make sure that you can be seen by cars.

Thanks!! We've got the reflective part covered. My friend's (and running partner's) hubby works nights and is required to wear reflective vests, so we've been using them to run in. The cars definitely noticed us and all slowed down a LOT when they caught sight of the vest (I just wish they would stop brighting us to double check what they are seeing. I'm getting blinded. :lmao:)

I've been looking for a lightweight weather-proof jacket. That's the last item on my list (I think of have warmth covered now). What brand do you use? Anyone else with suggestions??

I would love to hear about the shoes as well.

Thanks everyone for the tips and advice. :worship:
Keep it comin'. I can't be the only newbie hitting some of these snags! ;)

Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents regarding gloves. I picked up some Columbia gloves at Dick's with the omni heat silver dots inside. The gloves themselves are very lightweight and flexible, moisture wicking, but pretty darn toasty for being so light. I'm loving them.
