Looks like a historic blizzard will be hitting the NE. Anyone's trip going to be postponed due to this? I'm kind of surprised no one has started a panicky thread yet, ;)

Glad I no longer live in Boston!

Where I live it looks as if were expecting anywhere from 6-12 inches. My trips not until 2/20 but I do have a 10 mile race this weekend to prepare myself for the Princess 1/2. So I'm hoping that all the snow has come before Saturday morning so that my running partner and I can make it to our race. Hopefully this will be the last big storm for our area this winter, but who am I kidding. I live in Buffalo.....Winter could last until June.

I will be flying out of JFK for a two-week WDW vacation. Thankfully, my flight isn't until Sunday morning, so things should be clear by then. I'm still hoping and praying that my trip isn't affected in any way. I'd be devastated.

We are in the line of fire...In between Boston and Worcester. Our latest snow predictions are 30-39" beginning tomorrow afternoon. Our schools cancelation announcement came at 1:00 today.

You might want to start thinking about Plan B, just in case.

If your flight is one of the first after the airport re-opens there is a good chance that it, too, will be cancelled.

Most likely there are no planes at the airport when it re-opens. The last ones flew out before the airport closed and the arrivals after that were cancelled.

Best bet, if you can get ready that quickly, is to go to the airport early tomorrow (Friday) and try to stand by. But if you don't succeed, then give up and go home around noon (for Boston) since travel conditions will be deteriorating.

My flight isn't until Sunday morning. The snow is expected to stop here in NY early Saturday morning, so I imagine the airport will be open on Saturday.

As for Plan B, I feel like I really can't afford to think that way. I've made like the ideal itinerary for my family. Booked several dinner ressies, show tickets, a spa day and a Wishes Cruise. I've planned it all because of my grandmother's successful heart surgery, and so she could finally go on vacation for the first time in over a decade.

I'm kinda going with hope and believing that everything will work out okay. It's the only thing I feel I can do.

There are also a few people being affected in the dedicated "February trip goers thread". They are busy making alternate arrangements. My guess is that they don't frequent the transportation forum.

We're not flying out anywhere but...gas lines are crazy and groceries are flying off the shelves! DH encountered several gas stations CLOSED in our neighborhood and had to go to the next town. I feel like it is Sandy all over again.

My mom left for Africa this morning out of Chicago. We were really worried that her flight wasn't going to leave.

She made it out, got her connection at Dulles, and is well out of the storms by now!

SWA has already cancelled most of their flights on the east coast for Friday & Sat.. So if you are booked on them you better make other plans.

Us too, just south of Worcester. Hoping we don't lose power :sad2: I'm hosting a birthday party Sunday that I may have to cancel...........

Just be prepared and have backup flights for whatever airline you are flying. Like others have said most airlines don't want their aircraft stuck at an airport that is getting a direct hit from the blizzard so alot of flights aren't flying into the Northeast which means planes might not be available even Sunday morning. So I would research some other flights for later that day and Monday just in case.
Good luck and let us know how you make out!!

Exactly right. The airports may be open, but that doesn't mean your flight will go. It is highly likely even if the storm ends by Sunday morning, your flight will be cancelled. You really should have an alternative plan, just in case.

Where the heck are you seeing those amounts??? I'm in between Boston and Worc as well.....showing 16-24''!!! Right on that 495 snow line. We always get more snow than most....best not be more than 2'.....I'll have to sedate my dh.

Oh dear God...I just saw some updated numbers. I think I had best just go back to bed, and pull the covers up over my head!!!!

We fly out of ORD tomorrow morning. It is supposed to be sunny here today and tomorrow. I am staying optimistic we wont be affected. (I tried to convince DH we should leave tonight instead. He shot it down.)

US!!!!!!

The blizzard was just added to our weather forecast yesterday so I'm freaking :confused3

We're supposed to be one of the first flights out Sunday morning -- unfortunately it's not a direct flight. However, I made sure to pay the extra fee to reserve seats so they can't bump me if they're overbooked. Just not so sure what we'll do if our flight is delayed enough to make us miss our connection...we have to do Immigration too.

Yes they can bump you if they are overbooked even though you paid for a seat. So you better get there early because if the have to bump people they go according to the time they have checked in and arrived at the airport.

I saw a couple get denied boarding and I over heard the gate agent explain why their seats were given away.
