Hello! I was curious as too how the rides are in the winter time at DL? for instance, I have been to DL in the summer months a few times now, and as during the ride I have often felt "cool" air hitting me (which feels ohhh sooo good! ) thru the ride. So my question is, does DL hit us with 'warm" air in the colder months, do they turn off the cool air, or do you still feel the gush of cold wind and does it make you even more cold? :lmao:
I was just curious, trying to plan a "special" xmas time trip for a weekend this year, and bringing the baby. I dont want him to freeze to death, hehe.
Thanks for all the replys!

I don't know about the cool air but on the water rides I do believe they have different settings for different times of the year.

However it doesn't make much of a difference to me because Southern California (even during the winter months) is always warm. I went in December of 2006 and while all the locals were wearing winter coats my group was running around in shorts and tank tops. That 70 degrees felt soooo much better than the 20 degrees we had left at home.

Well....if it's raining but Screamin' is still running, don't go on it. I've heard that it feels like needles in the face. In colder weather, that would be cold needles, LOL.

We had a chillier fall-time visit than a December visit (wait...early December is still Fall).... The cold visit I had was in late January one year, but I found it to be pleasant. The December visit did involve rain...I wore a poncho on Grizzly, wore quick-drying pants, and went on it (for the first time) after dark (not very late in December in southern CA), and it was terrific. :)

With a baby, in our family, baby would be close to us in a sling or Ergo with infant insert, so baby wouldn't be getting cold. If you're not interested in that, then yes, bundle baby up for the stroller (but a nice hotsling or mammasmilk sling would be lovely if baby is itty!).

And always, with CA trips...layers are important. You must be ready to take off or put on more layers if needed. The mornings are usually cooler, even during our May visit this year. So you start in warmer clothes then change as the day goes by. And as the evening hits, Anaheim just gets downright chilly to me, even though I've lived in Western WA for awhile now...the day heat gets to me and then the evening chilly air causes me to shiver! I always need something warmer at night, and if I don't have it, I'm not the happiest of campers.

I have to respectfully disagree with MrsJackSparrow4Life and point out that December in SoCal is not always warm - especially depending on the individual person, what they are used to and what feels warm or cold to them. We are very lucky if the days are 70 degrees, but there have also been years where it has been pouring rain (like bad, heavy El Nino rain!) through much of December. Also the days can be in the high 50's or low 60's (like they were last year when we were there) while the nights can drop down to the 30's or 40's and it is very cold. Last year, I mistakenly left my coat and mittens in the hotel room one night and was wandering around in a t-shirt in 40-degree weather and I was freezing. I personally am always warm, and it takes a lot for me to get cold, but that is just me. I can see how the temperature changes affect other people. Some of my friends get cold very easily, even at 60 degrees. So I would not count on coming out here in December and having 70 degree weather the entire time. It may be that way, but if you get chilled easily, then make sure you are prepared. Of course, it always feels a little warmer in DLR during the daytime than what the actual temperature might be. We are supposed to be coming up on another El Nino so that may bring lots of rain again.

It's funny what MrsJackSparrow4Life said about the locals running around in cold weather gear in 70 degrees while others are in shorts.:lmao: I don't drag out my coat and gloves until it gets down to 40 degrees, but other friends of mine have the gloves and neck scarf out when it is 60 degrees (and we are lifelong SoCal residents) and I giggle at them. We are just different. And whenever we see people walking around in shorts or summer wear in 40 or 50 degree-weather at DLR (and we have seen them), we always say to each other, "I bet they don't live in California." I don't know how often we have been right, but we always assume the folks wearing warm weather clothing in December are tourists.

Isn't is warm at the end of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride? I'm always sweltering in Pirates, but I don't think that is part of the ride:-)

Take advantage of the lockers to bring & store warm layers in case they are needed.....

Happy planning!

Yes, there is a flash of heat in Mr. Toad as you go through hell or whatever. And POTC does have some warmer areas to it. I have noticed that too (then again, that might just be me!) IASW tends to be very drafty during the winter. It was definitely very brisk and crisp last December when we were there - mainly in the mornings and evenings - but if you are one who gets chilled when it is 55 or 60 degrees outside, yes, store some stuff in a locker to be prepared!

I always seem to freeze on Space. Even in the summer, I feel like I need some sort of sweatshirt/sweater. And anything with water always feels colder to me in the winter. But, I live in Utah and the change in temps of 30+ degrees can make it seem much warmer in CA.

Last Dec. we were coming from below freezing weather and the weather in CA was high 60's low 70's and we all felt it was really warm during the days. We did wear sweatshirts in the morning and the evening most days, but compared to hats and coats and gloves it was great.

I always winter gear at the ready when we go in Nov, Dec, Jan or Feb! By March I'm ok with sweatshirts only but in the other 4 months I've got coats, gloves, hats, scarves ready to use. :) We do rent a locker so we don't have to carry it around if we don't need it but we always have it. We live in Nor Cal and it gets cold up here, I joke about living in the Great White North but it does get cold up here, it doesn't snow but it freezes. On rides the only that's hot is Mr Toad when you go thru hell, it gets hot in there!! lol I like to go thru there when it's cold out, warms me up until I get outside again. LOL :)

Don't forget that the tram ride from the parking garage is cold all year, at least to me. I always freeze riding the tram.

I really hope you're right about the water rides having different settings - I rode GRR twice in a row one night last year in early october and I was frozen after the second go.

Having said that - nothing can be as bad as Paris in January where this year it hit something like 20 degrees (and yes I do mean fahrenheit :scared1:)

Thank you for all the replys! I live in Northern Ca, and I can never remember how cold it gets, LOL!
I guess one good thing for having a baby at the park is the storage area under the stroller! I will be loading it up with all our layers of clothing! :lmao:
Maybe even in plastic ziplock bags to keep them dry from the rain!:thumbsup2
Thanks everyone!
