Winter Haven man dies after tasor at Universal

Tragic. But I'd still rather see cops use a taser than a gun in most cases.

It is a sad outcome, but you really shouldn't put yourself in the position to be tasered to begin with.

Speaking in general and not to this case because I don't have all the facts, I wouldn't assume that taserings are always because a person put himself in a position to be tasered.

I'm just going off the article, "Became violent and resisted restraint" That is pretty clear to me. No need to be loud and causing a scene out side of a place of business either. Like I said though, a sad outcome for sure.

Really? Open-and-shut, based on an account in a news story that may or may not be accurate?

Someone could be sick. Diabetic. Prescription drug reaction. Or behaving in a way that is being misinterpreted by people around him. Another news site says his "disturbing behavior" was pacing and pulling at his beard. Not exactly grounds for arrest, but I won't assume that's the whole story either.

I'm not anti-cop or anti-taser. But I'd like to see more information before I make assumptions.

I doubt anyone has enough facts to make an informed comment on this particular case. It is sad that someone died from the shooting.

I agree. This was a judgement call by the Orlando police officers not Universal Security (security officers employed by Universal don't carry tasers.) Police officers, I am sure, have been trained on the proper usage and when to use it.

We actually saw this guy leaving the Citywalk Theatres last night, and was shocked to hear of the outcome. He was clearly out of control. We came out of the theatre, and saw him standing in the main walkway with his pants down screaming obscenities at the top of his lungs. He would kick his shoes off and walk up to random people leaving and scream something at them. He then walked up to a Blue Man usher who was leaving and put his hands on her, she then backed off and he pushed her back. Security then put their hands on him, and they had a little push/shove brawl for like 10 seconds. He then would scream more words I couldn't understand, and would extend his arms like he was Jesus being crucified, then spin around pulling at his hair. We were told to leave, so we did, but we saw police heading their way. I'm not sure what the reason for him acting out like that, but he was definitely needed to be subdued.

Sounds like the cops had no other choice. Tragic all around.

Thank you for sharing.

Thats crazy! Who knows if he was doing anything illegal... or perfectly legal, or if he just had a mental break. Sad to hear though. I feel like cops in such a public place would resist using such measures until they absolutely have to. They know the risks associated with it and with a crime prone city like Orlando Im sure they get plenty of use out of that thing... meaning- they weren't just trigger happy.

I hope the best for the family and hope that they get the answers they deserve... good or bad in the brothers part. :sad2:

Why do some jump to the conclusion that that the Tazer is at fault? There were in custody deaths long before the tazer was around. Drug use, unknown medical conditions, etc are often the true reason. Wait to see what the final report has to say....of course the outcome seldom makes headlines.

I would much rather have officers using Tazers than risk the public and their own safety by fighting with a suspect. Media needs headlines to make money. TAZER sounds alot more interesting than a person who dies from a drug overdose.
