Whereabouts are you? I heard that a bunch of flights were cancelled at YEG (Edmonton International) this morning. Great timing of your "escape" from winter, though!
Hubby works for West Jet and so far, none of their flights have been cancelled... just a bit delayed with de-icing... but friends were on a flight to Hawaii today and it was cancelled, and they cant get out now until Sunday.
They released us from work at 1 PM today because of decreasing visibility and bad road conditions near Fort Saskatchewan and Edmonton. As you can tell, I'm working hard from the house.
Just finished shoveling the driveway for the first of many times (I suspect) this weekend...that was pretty painful.
Hubby left work 1.5 hours ago, and is almost halfway home. We live 20 min from his work.
I went out to shovel the sidewalk 10 min ago, came inside and had to blowdry my hair!
Looks like a great weekend to stay indoors!
But we live in a gated community where they came and plowed our drives and roads last night 'round midnight... so it wasnt that bad (According to hubby who ran out for errands today). I plan on heading out to Walmart for a couple last minute supplies after the kids go to bed.... just hoping the main roads are clear.
I have been hiding in the house all day to stay warm!
Well we had to cancel our ds birthday party at Chuck e cheese tomorrow. There was only one way in and out of our neighbourhood all day as the the other outs were drifted in 6 feet high Our front steps was drifted right to the top of the railing this morning
We took the one out and got some groceries, a birthday cake and his special request of chinese food. We are hunkering down with some cake, hot chocolate and watching santa buddies It has turned out to be a nice mental health day.
Well the graters came by today! We no longer have to drive through ds7 schoolyard/playground (the street just kinda ended with 7 foot drifts) to get to Superstore!
All those people in calgary that got hit so hard I feel for you. I lived there up untill last year, and they always seem to get hit harder then us up here.
Our snow did not hit till about 2pm friday, the highways were in good shape, as the plows were on it right away, it was our towns roads, I am still getting stuck in places and this -33 can go away any time!
We had planned to drive out to Lake Louise last Friday to ski & watch some World Cup events, but decided, NO WAY!!
We usually don't let a little snow storm keep us off the hills, but that was quite a blizzard.
Our neighbourhood also has private snow clearing so we were fine getting around here, but can't believe how poorly Calgary handles snow clearing & sanding. The folks who run the city really should be ashamed of this. I hope it doesn't take a real tragedy to get them to change their protocols.
Stay warm, everyone & enjoy the Winter Wonderland!
