thinking about a 3 bdrm twhm but nervous about offsite.
will it be loud??see alot of crappy hotels and cheap restaurants... can you hear traffic.. or once inside the gates ..roads quiet?
getting great quotes...some make me pay the cleaning for 7 -10 days while others waive the heat for Nov...some dont seem polite at all...some are soo friendly..guess (rental)times are hard....

Windsor Hills is a gated community, about a mile off of I-4. Very quiet and peaceful--we stayed in a house, though, not a townhouse. Of course, there's no guarantee on neighbors, wherever you stay. But you won't hear road noise at all, if that's what your concern is.

The interior roads are not much travelled. I was comfortable letting my DD14 go running by herself within the community. It was very safe, both from a traffic perspective and from a crime perspective.

In fact, we liked Windsor Hills so much, we've stayed there twice, and are in the process of selling our DVC. My family likes off-site THAT MUCH BETTER!

Just to clarify Windsor Hills is about a mile south of 192 which runs east and west through Kissimmee. I-4 is another couple of miles east of the 192 intersection with Old Lake Wilson Rd which is the road WH is on.
There is no traffic noise at WH. Speed limit is only 25mph or less within the resort.
Map : Windsor Hills is #1, zoom in a little and you can see where you are in relation to Disney and other areas.

Tourist trap area.. now don't get me wrong, I love onsite Disney, but they are the trap! They will wisk you to their resorts from the airport, boast about how you can take their transportation to anywhere in the "world", but they trap you in there unless you have your own car....
with that being said, much of the theme park area's are for tourists, are they traps? NO. There are many beautiful places to stay outside of Disney. I am currently in Bonnet Creek and Disney's resorts cannot shine a candle to the inside of these units or grounds. I have stayed at all of the values, all of the moderates, as well as Beach Club, Board Walk, Contemporary, Poly, and the Wilderness cabins (also the Swan if that counts LOL), so it isn't like I don't know what I am comparing Bonnet Creek to.
As far as Windsor Hills, I haven't stayed there, but I have stayed at Windsor Palms which is their "older" sister resort. It was quiet, nice & we had a 3 bedroom condo unit. We were able to see some of the Fireworks from the balcony which over looked their gate house & pool. It was also set back from 192 & the only traffic we saw there were from others staying there.

Yes, at WH you are kind of in your own little "world" as well. Far from the main road, very quiet and gated. Very nice atmosphere!

It is close enough to the 192 for restaurants, fuel, grocer and packy but far enough to seem like it's a neighborhood.

WOW - now that's a statement!!! It makes me feel better about staying in Windsor Hills versus on site!!

I realized my mistake after I got off the DIS. You're right, of course--you take I-192 off of I-4, and drive a couple miles to get to Old Lake Wilson Road.

And yes, my gang loves, loves, LOVES Windsor Hills! There are 6 of us, and we stay in a 4BR house. DD15 loves having her own room with a TV, Wi-fi and private bath--if she had a mini-fridge, we'd never see her! DS13 loves the free movies and PS2 with games. DD7 and DS4 enjoy sharing a room (they don't at home). And everyone loves the pool and hot tub. DH loves the relaxed atmosphere. We also enjoy having a full kitchen--my gang isn't much on eating out, they love being able to grab a snack whenever. And of course, it's vacation, so I go for easy-for-Mom type stuff, like break and bake cookies. And I cook meals, but simple ones, like spaghetti with frozen meatballs and jarred sauce.

Probably the best thing for me, aside from the happy family, is being able to get up at 5am (what can I say, I'm a nut!), and enjoy a cup of tea while catching the news on the laptop. The rest of the gang can sleep in--I love me some quiet, once in a while!

Seriously, we love Windsor Hills. At first, I read these boards and wondered why people rave about it so. Well, now I know. I hope you love it, too.
