Does anyone know if Winn Dixie is the closest grocery store to Hotel Blvd? Im looking to buy a case of water and possibly some meat/veggies. We are staying on Hotel Blvd our first night in FL. Is there any other store en route from the airport to Hotel Blvd? We are checking into a Disney hotel the next day and dont plan on leaving Disney property for 10 days :) Id like to get my shopping done before we get there. Ive also heard there are new BBQ grills at the resort Ill be staying at and thought it would be kind of cool to make some kababs and eat/drink by the pool.

Thanks

Hotel Plaza Blvd to 535.
At 535 turn left.
Go a few blocks and Winn-Dixie is on the right.

Minus traffic it is only a few minute drive.

Goodings is the closest place but it is really pricey but Winn Dixie is only a few more blocks but worth it for what you will save in price

Yes, last time we went to Goodings. I just needed the case of water and sent my husband in. I waited in the car. Looked really small from the outside. Is it full groceries? Butcher/produce etc.. ?

Don't go to Goodings, super expensive and run down,20-25 years ago there were several of them in the area and were pretty nice, very expensive but at least nice when compared to other grocery stores back then. The Goodings in Lake Buena Vista is the only one left and the last time I went in there half the shelves were empty, there was broken carpet and really dim lighting like they were trying to save money along with a 20%-25% price hike on everything.Winn Dixie is just 2-3 minutes north of Goodings,go there.

Winn Dixie was right behind our time share, it is super easy and close. We went there a couple of times and while we didn't get much we were happy with what we found/got. As Hopper said, turn left onto 535 then it will be on the right after the lights with Walgreens and Cypress Point. It is in a plaza with Papa Johns.

Is this the same one with the liquor store in the parking lot? DH and I like to have a nice glass of wine before bed at night once the kids are tucked in. We're not comfortable traveling with wine in the car. One year we had a cork pop and had to pour it out on the side of the road :(

Yikes! Yes, ABC Wine and Spirits.

We always go to the Winn Dixie whenever we are at WDW.

Good to know. Ive heard a lot about "Publix" and when I looked at an online map, I saw the Winn Dixie. Wasnt sure how current the map was or why I dont hear a lot about it. People seem to prefer Publix?? I dont have either in my area, so Im fine with either one. I just prefer the closest.

Why did your pour it out? Couldn't you stick the cork back in?

Depending on where you are, and the traffic, it can be faster to get to Publix.

Overall, Publix is known for having nicer, newer stores and better customer service. That's not to say that Winn-Dixie doesn't have some nice stores and good workers. Publix is much larger in Florida than Winn-Dixie, which was bought by Bi-Lo after going bankrupt a few years ago.

We've shopped both. Prefer Publix over W-D marginally, and Publix is one of the top rated grocery store chains in the US according to a "leading consumer publication". But we still pop into W-D if we are looking for something special that we can't find elsewhere. The one thing with W-D is that most of their specials require you to have their loyalty card. A bit of a hassle, but it's free. Only place I use it is at that particular store.

If you want to try Publix, and if you are coming from the airport, you could probably get in and out of Publix just as fast as W-D if you take the South Route from MCO; Jeff Fuqua Blvd South onto 417 Central Florida Greenway East (toll), exit World Centre Drive, right on I-Drive South and left at Vineland. From there it is a fairly short hop over to Hotel Plaza Blvd. Less traffic via Darryl Carter Parkway/Palm Parkway (exit out the back of the Publix mall over near Outback) than via Vineland/535 (which is where your GPS will direct you) if it is a busy time of day.

will you have a car? It is walkable....I have walked it from Downtown Disney in the past...but not in the summer months. We stayed at the Sheraton lake Buena Vista for a couple of nights before checking into our DVC last week and I walked to the Winn Dixie a couple of times. It is a decent grocery store. They also have a wine section. And to answer another question...yes...there is a big wine store in front of the Winn Dixie.

Yes, we will have a car. We are at AKV-Kidani, so we will more than likely drive to the store. Thanks for the tip on the wine selection. Much appreciated!

Publix is the main grocery store in Florida, they're literally on every corner. Not joking around I have 7-8 within a 10 minute drive of my house.Publix is the better overall store but there's nothing bad about Winn- Dixie. From Hotel Plaza blvd the Winn Dixie is closer than any Publix. If you were in the areas further west of WDW,like AK,Publix would be closer .The closest Publix from DTD and Hotel Plaza blvd would be across the street from the Vineland Premium outlets, you would turn right from Hotel Plaza and go south on 535 and right after you go under the I-4 overpass get on the left lane and turn left on Vineland ave and just follow it,Publix will be on the left across from the outlets, maybe 5 more minutes than to the Winn Dixie so not too far.

Yes that would be the closest Publix, but I would follow the directions I gave above. One of the reasons they built the Darryl Carter Pkwy is to relieve the congestion around the 535 and Vineland. And so far almost nobody uses it. The route under I-4 on 535 and up Vineland is through some of the heaviest traffic in the LBV area. Palm Parkway and DC Parkway may be just a little bit longer, but a whole lot less traffic!

With some help from Google Maps, avoid the red route, blue is lower traffic:

I'm glad you posted this as I've seen that new street several times on my latest trips but just scratched my head on where it went,a lot of people are probably like me since you say almost nobody uses it.I love trying out new streets but while in Orlando so much is going on I forget to check maps on my phone to see where the street goes, now that you posted this I won't forget to take this street, looks like a great shortcut between the LBV area and International Drive.

Of all my Orlando sneaks and shortcuts, this is now probably my favorite. We own at Vistana Resort, and I used this route so many times last trip to avoid a plugged up I-4, going to Wal-Mart or Whole Foods on Turkey Lake, restaurants on Sand Lake. The one thing we have learned over the years is to avoid 535/I-4/Vineland at all costs. We drive AROUND Lake Brian to go to Publix. Sure it's probably double the drive, but often half the time. Our Vistana rule is simple; "NEVER turn left"
