Wine tasting?

I've heard there is wine tasting on the 7 day cruises - but what about the 3 & 4 Day cruises?

We did wine tasting on our 4-night at Palos. The cost is/was $12 per person. It was most certainly worth it! My DH still refers back to the little guide they gave us before he heads to the liquor store.

I am going to do the wine tasting with my parents. I have heard some great things about it. My dad is excited because he heard that you get a pin! I don't drink a lot of wine because I am afraid that I won't like it..... Now I will get to test some!

My dh did this because we are very "unlearned" about wines....all we know is we prefer something sweet. He came out of there talking about oakiness and tears, wearing his pin, looking all official and everything! I'm not sure it was offered at the tasting, but we were recommended a bottle called Trentino Moscato Giallo and fell in love with it........absolutely yummy! I stock up on it from time to time.................it takes me back.........

don't get your hopes up on the pins. DH & I went to the wine tasting on the Magic and they did not give out any pins (there were about 12-15 people there that day). I kept expecting my pin....but it never appeared!!!

We got our pins on the 7/19 Magic when we did the wine tasting. We won't waste our time next time. We like the first wine we tasted and liked each one less as we kept tasting. We came to the conclusion that we probably just don't like what they call "good" wine (smoky, oaky, lots of acidity and tannin, etc.----YUCK!!!!)

Now I'm really disappointed, Dr. P! I was on the cruise right after you, July 26 Eastern. Did you have to ask for the pin or did they just hand them out? I am a rookie pin collector & really wanted mine!

Hey, hilltopfamily. I see you are from Nebraska. We'll be flying out of Omaha when we go. If they still have the wine tasting, I'll try to "sweet-talk" them into an extra pin for you.

Have you flown out from Eppley before? I've never had any problems with my flights from there, but it does get awfully quiet there at night, everything closes up pretty early. Guess we aren't quite in the "big league" out here, huh! Hope all goes well for you!

Yes, I've gone out of there before and know what you mean. Did you go out of there for your cruise flight? We've got the fly and cruise as a package but wouldn't think it leaves much time to make it to the ship to get any good reservations. If we're lucky enough to get an extra pin, I'll leave it in an airport locker for you to pick up on your next trip.

They just walked around with a little basket that was filled with the pins and you just reached in and grabbed them. Frankly, it wouldn't have been hard to grab more than one, even if by mistake.

Dean--We didn't fly for our cruise but instead drove down to Florida--took us a couple long days. No plans for flying anytime in the future either, hate flying these days. Maybe I can send you some $$$ for postage & for your efforts & it can be sent to me?? If you're able to get me one, of course! If it doesn't work, no big deal--at least I have my memories of the great time DH & I had!

Dr. P-- I never saw them going around with a basket! Darn!

To all others: DH & I really enjoyed the wine tasting, not so much for the knowledge we gained about wines but rather for the fun time it was. The CM's were pretty entertaining & it was nice to sit down to several glasses of wine! We recommend going to it, at least once. Cheers!

Advance reservations are required. We were given a card with info about the wine package avail. for dinner when we boarded on Saturday and on the back were the times they offered wine tasting as well as the place to go in order to get your ressies. I didn't "rush" to get the ressies, not like getting Palo ressies, & still had no difficulty in obtaining them.

There was a $12.00 per person fee ($24.00 for me & DH) charged to your KTTW card, for the wine tasting tickets. I believe the charge was listed on our charges printout as "Palo" which is why I went to guest services to dispute the charge. Felt like a fool when CM explained it was my wine tasting charge!

Ncligs: great visual!!! That is about how much I was smiling afterwards.

Hey! Wine tasting was great but you needed advance reservations. We received a pin for this experience. It was really fun and educational. Definitely a MUST DO for sea days on the MAGIC.

I agree, make your reservations for the wine tastings. We tried to do this finally on our Magic cruise in June and were shut out early from all of them. Oh well, I'll just have to try again in January!

I wanted to do this but how much wine do you drink during the tasting. My DH was worried we would drink too much and be sleepy the rest of the day.

The one thing that DH still talks about was when the Sommelier used a glass to open the bottle of champagne. He thinks that alone was worth the price. It was pretty impressive.

We still haven't been brave enough to try it at home.

There isn't a lot of wine in each glass. But you don't have to drink it all if you don't want.
