first let me say i know nothing about wine!!!! i am clueless

so i'm lost every time i go to liquor store---

the only kind of wine i like to drink is yagoo sangria---

we are invited to a dinner tonight and i would like to pick up a differnt type of wine--- that is sweet and not dry---
any suggestions???

a nice zinfadel is always good.

If you like a white and want sweet and fruity, a White Zinfandel or a Blush Zinfandel. JMHO but I like this with pasta's and white meat.

The only red I like is Riunite Lambrusco. Its not a very expensive wine and I think a lot of people turn their noses up at it but don't write it off too quickly. It has a wonderful fruity taste and we even saw it in either in Germany or Italy when DH did the wine tasting at Epcot. I like it with red meats or as a relaxing evening wine.

Good luck and have fun.

A gewurtzaminer - however the heck it's spelled! - is good. It's a sweet wine. Or zinfindel. Mondavi or Berringer are good names.

Most of your German whites are sweet and not dry. Spatlese or Qualitatswein(sp?) are good. As for Reds you might look for one from Hungery. Check you labels or ask at the Booze store. Good luck!

Almost every store will have a bottle of a good white German wine - the glass is navy blude and I believe the label is Schmitt Schone.

For a good red that has good overall appeal, see if the store has Hess Select Cabernet. It is usually $12-18 a bottle but is as good as any more expensive wine we've ever had and it is very consistent.

If you're going somewhere where the other people know wine, then I would definitely go with a sweet German wine over a white zinfandel. I like both, but some "wine" people look down their noses at white zinfandel.

Pinot Grigio is a nice, light wine.

A rather inexpensive white that I like is Yellow Tail Chardonnay. Not too sweet yet not too dry either. Red I have to shy away from since it seems to give me headaches.

A Riesling Auslese is also a good pick. I've seen a Reisling in a blue bottle at the grocery store that is surprisingly good!

While I do like some rose wines, some people thumb their noses at them (white zins for instance).

I second this!!! Reisling is also good. A Zinfandel scream cheap when someone brings one, IMO. If you want different, a Japanese Plum wine is a dessert wine and I really like it.

The other day for the first time, I bought an apple wine and a peach wine -- don't remember the brand. It tasted DELICIOUS.

The big bottle was around $8.00

but i copied down all your suggestions and will be prepared the next time i go to the liquor store--

Actually, from what I've heard, a few labels are starting to get more recognition...although I can't remember them right now...

We like to drink a German white Mosel-Saar-Ruwer. It is light and fruity and rather inexpensive. We tried a Mosel on the DCL and loved it!!
