Can you purchase wine by the bottle at the MDR's during dinner and take what's left to your stateroom?

I'm asking because of the recent change to DCL's alcohol policy. I've looked at the info regarding the wine packages but don't think I would drink a bottle of wine per day.

Thanks!

Yes, you can.

Or they will save it for you and bring it out at the next night's dinner. Your choice.

Yes, you can. If you are on a cruise longer than 3 nights, you can also purchase a smaller wine package than the number of nights of your cruise. A 3 "night" package is really just a 3 bottle package. You are welcome to purchase a 3 bottle (or 4 or 5) package for a 7 night cruise.

We purchase a 5 night wine package on our 7 night cruises as we would not drink a whole bottle per night.

Thanks! That's a great idea.

Be careful with the packages, unless you are drinking the most costly wines on the list, it just pays to pick a bottle a night or every few nights and pay for it outside of the package. It took great effort to actually get any value out of a wine package the last time we opted to do it vs. paying list price. Plus, while only somewhat, the main list is better than the wine package list.

Do you have any idea what the price range would be for a bottle at one of the MDR's?

This was our experience too. We ended up buying 3 bottles of wine for a 7 day, and a bottle of Champagne for less than the cheapest package.

The price on a bottle ranges from I think the high 20's upwards of 100+, on a side note, I can find no wine list menus aside from one from 2007, it may not have changed except the prices. DCL really fails on wine selection and updates, imho. Same old stuff, not great varietal selections, not great regional selections, etc. If you love CA wines, you will be fine. For those of us that prefer something less oaky, well, that is why we bring on our own wine. Sometimes, you can also do better buying by the glass, say if you want white and another wants red. I don't know, I found "stuck" in the wine package and did not see any savings at all. Well, we did get savings, I think we ordered the iron horse champagne every night, as an after dinner drink, sent the bottle to our room and enjoyed it after dinner, when I figured out that the wine package had no savings for the wine we liked. I just felt that the advertised "savings" were misleading and almost a scam to get ppl to spend more than they would on the same wines otherwise. Now, if you compare the wines you like with the wine list and say, hey, we want that most expensive bottle on the majority of the nights, go for the package, then you get the savings.
