Wine Package Question

We always get the wine package for the number of.nights of the cruise and usually drink a bottle every night. You can have any bottle you want. We often get the same wine more than once, like the Malbec, which we love . You can get a bottle in PAlo from the wine package but you can't used it in Remy.

There is a limit on the number you can take OFF the ship? I know there is a two bottle limit per adult for bring wine ON the ship.

Disney has no such limits. As to the government, it depends on which country the cruise terminates on. For cruises that terminate in the US, there is no limit on the amount of alcohol (liquor, beer, or wine) that you can bring with you, unless it's obviously so much that you're importing it for resale and not for personal use (which would have to be A LOT). Having said that, there are limits as to what you can bring back duty free, above which you'll have to pay duty. But duty is surprisingly cheap unless you have cases of it. And, if you're only marginally over the limit, often times they don't even bother collecting the duty, as long as you declare it. I wouldn't let the fear or cost of duty prevent you from taking a few bottles off the ship with you if you otherwise would.

On our recent cruise I think we only had 2 different types out of the 7 bottles (nights). Though, if you're going to order the same type every night, you'd be better off asking the price of that bottle to see if the wine package makes sense or if paying per bottle is better. There are a few that "may" price out cheaper per bottle than via the package if you're not going to change it up.

Because I travel as a solo cruiser is why I'd buy it for less than the number of days. I would like to remember my cruise, and that would not be happening if I was downing a bottle of wine every night. :P

Thanks. I would not be getting the same type every night, but I might repeat one.

Although given my previous post, I would probably just get the 3-bottle package for a 7-night - I might not have to repeat any that way in the first place.

Unless you're consuming the wine at dinner, then the corkage fee sort of negates any savings.

We sail concierge. We stop by the lounge on the way to dinner and have been encouraged to take drinks with us to dinner. The bottles we bring on board are consumed in our stateroom.

In the fine print on the wine packages, there is a limit of 2 bottles being allowed to be carried off ship.

But only if you bring the bottle. Anytime I have brought a glass from my room...nothing is charged or said.

I just want to make sure that other passersby in the thread are aware that there's a corkage. It was mentioned to bring a bottle of wine on board to have with dinner (emphasis on "bottle" and "dinner"), for most people, this would be bringing the bottle to the dinner table.

I personally think DCL needs a better onboard wine selection (for their wine packages). I'm a wine snob though :smooth: I know they carry good wine onboard, I just wish you could purchase them in packages.

I agree! I think the offerings in the wine packages are pretty poor. I tend to bring my own wine on board or will order off the menu as they do have some good wine, but you have to search for it!

I bring my own as well. It can be a pain to travel with it, but I like what I like :teeth: If they had a better selection I would totally buy onboard and save the hassle of packing it in my suitcase, although I have become an expert wine packer LOL
I know I could buy it before boarding the ship but that is not always convenient....
