My sister has never been a wine drinker until she recently discovered Moscato. She loves it! I thought I'd get her a nice bottle for Christmas but I'm at a loss over which brand to choose. Can anyone recommend a good brand that's not over the top expensive but also not cheap?

Thank you!

Muscato is a grape variety-they make both dry and sweet wines from it as well as a lightly sparkling sweet wine-which does she like?

Sorry, I forgot that part. Sweet. Definitely sweet.

Moscato ~is~ cheap, though. It's not one you're going to find a $100 bottle of.

If I were you, I get one of those holders - these:

And just fill it up with a few/couple bottles of whichever kind.

Those holders are cute!

I saw this at Bjs just today, had no idea what it was and did not check the price, but people were buying it up like crazy...Hmmmmmmmmm

Moscato is pretty cheap.

I like Barefoot brand. Seriously. It is "really" cheap! I can get a BIG bottle for 8.97 at Walgreens.

We LOVED the Moscato that we had at Palo on our Disney cruise...
This was years ago.... But may still be available and delicious.

Look up Trentino Moscato
(The Trentino area of Italy is now where Olive Garden contracts/produces their house Italian wines.)

I could be wrong, but Moscato, I believe, is from a Muscat (sp?) type grape, and is generally a sweet, or even dessert wine.

If you cannot find this available in your area, as it is not widely available, (because this is a smaller winery)
then you could go to a really good wine and spirits store and see if anyone there could help you out.

I know that some people have mentioned the Barefoot Moscato.
It seems that we had some once that we really liked, and then a batch that was not as good. I am not sure that the Barefoot brand would be reliable to always be a good batch or not???? But I do know that it is a widely available and inexpensive wine.

Are there any wineries in your area?
We do have a couple of wineries here, and actually like a couple of their wines better than most anything else.

We visited the winery at Biltmore Estate in Asheville NC, and ended up not buying any bottles of wine, as there was nothing we liked as well as a couple of the sweet wines at one of our local wineries. One is a white wine that is refreshing and infused with peach. I don't do red wines, but they have a mix that is red-raspberry that is just perfect for the Holidays.

It might be neat to go to a winery, do some wine-tasting, and let them know that you are looking for their sweetest wines, for a gift. Get a couple (or more) of different varieties to try.

Hope this helps!

My favorite is Robert Mondavi Muscato d'oro, is about $25 per bottle. That would be my middle of the road recommendation~

i like Barefoot - I think I paid $9.99 for 1.5 liters!

cute!

Costco carries a good variety, it's a moscato d'asti (so it's just a little bubby, not as much as champagne). It's sweet but not over the top, and comes in a sort of fluted bottle. It's $10 at our Costco. Good luck!

For General Moscato I like Barefoot brand the best as well.

Moscato d'Asti is my favorite but I can't find it very many places.

Do you have a Trader Joe's nearby? I like the one they sell there although I have no idea what the label is. It's comes in a kind of wavy bottle.

And yeah, I don't think I've ever seen a bottle of Moscato more than $15 or so.

Moscato d'Asti is my favorite too but like a PP, it's hard to find. My favorite came in a blue bottle. I know, not very helpful but I haven't been able to find it again.

In my fridge now I have Bricco Riealla Moscato d'Asti. It's really nice too.

I like Barefoot or Crane Lake. Actually I haven't met a Moscato I haven't liked!

Barefoot is really good Moscato! I have only tried about 3 brands, but Barefoot is the best I have tried. It is a really good sweet wine that really suits my mood sometimes.

Sutter Home isn't bad, I just like Barefoot better. One word of advice, stay far, far away from Gallo!

I've tried a bunch in the less that $20 range and my favorite Mionetto Il Moscato! It's normally $9.99 a bottle and slightly bubbly!

Luccio Moscato d'Asti is my favorite and I've tried many! Much better than Barefoot. It's pretty sweet and slightly sparkling. It's around $10. I can find it at several grocery stores here in the Midwest that have a large alcohol section. I discovered it at an Italian steakhouse.

My favorite is Vino Dei Fratelli Moscato D'Asti, and it runs about $12.00 a bottle. I've only been able to find it at one grocery store chain (HEB) here.
