Hello!! We are off to DW next Saturday :cool1: and am very excited!! We've gone a few times and usually fly, as we are doing this time. Usually while we are there, I will pick up a couple of bottles of wine at the resort and store in our fridge for a late night drink when back from the parks but I find the wine really expensive for what you get.

This time, I was thinking of packing one or two bottles of wine wrapped in towels in my check in luggage.

What do you think? Have you done this? It would be REALLY bad if they broke but wrapped in towels in clothing, probably not likely.

Eeeeh....now I'm thinking I should buy in the resorts.....

Are you flying non-stop (no intermediate stops between your original point of origin in Canada and your final destination in the U.S.--MCO)? If so you can purchase wine in the duty free shop in the airport at your originating airport in Canada, and take the bottles on the plane with you. There are usually not a lot of wines to choose from, but they are at a lower price than in Canadian liquor stores.

If you are going to pack it in your checked bag wrap it like this...

first layer....bubble wrap
second layer....diapers or dog pee pads
third layer.....bubble wrap
then X-large ziploc bags or some type of bag...and maybe double bagged

Pack it in the middle of your suitcase so that it is well cushioned by your clothing.

I have flown many times with wine and spirits in my luggage. We always tie them in a plastic bag, then place the bottle in the middle of our rolled clothes, slightly towards the bottom of the suitcase so it doesn't fall over when upright. We have never had a bottle break (touch wood!), even with multiple bottles in a suitcase. Just remember to check the weight before you go to the airport, as a few bottles can add significant weight.
Personally I prefer to have the bottles in my checked bags, so I'm not fighting with other people for space in th overhead compartments.

We usually pack a bottle of rum or vodka in our checked luggage for late night drinks after we return from the parks. We wrap the bottle in 2-3 layers of clothing and then put it in a tightly knotted plastic bag, then surround the bag with additional clothes in the suitcase.

We've never had a problem. Just make sure that everything is snug in the suitcase, that things can't slide all over the place.

That's a good idea and I actually have some bubble wrap here...don't have diapers though but I think maybe a thick towel might work.

I usually don't buy wine from here to bring because it's sooooo much cheaper in the US!! And I usually am in Ft Lauderdale first to I pick up wine there. But once I flew to WDW first and did pack wine bottle.

Put it into 2 Safeway bags, opposite openings. Then wrapped in towel, and packed in the middle of suitcase. It was fine. TSA did open my suitcase, I guess because large liquid bottle showed up on XRay. Left me a nice note :rotfl: so be sure you don't pack any valuables in your checked luggage, expensive purses, etc.

You can't put it in a carryon...it would exceed the 3-1-1 limitations. The only exception would be if you were able to buy at a duty free that is after security.

When we go on our yearly cruise we always take wine, and since I love canadian wines I always purchase it in the tetra packs, which is equivalant to a bottle of wine. I just put it in a ziplock bag. It is easy to get on a cruise ship that does not like you bringing your own alcohol on board. It is also safer than glass in the luggage.

I was wondering when someone would get around to tgropp's tip! Holy cow that's a lot of trouble for glass bottles. There are several very good wines that come in 1 to 4 litre tetra packs. Not only safer, but lighter than glass too! Also a few wines now come in PET bottles that look just like glass.

That's all we take on our camping excursions too so we don't lug the extra weight and don't worry about broken glass.

Oh my gosh! I totally forgot about the tetra pack!! What a great idea! I "think" that would be safer....don't have to worry about glass breaking...only if it squishes would it be a problem. I think I might do that instead but wrap like glass to be safe.

Honestly...for the hassle, I may just skip it and pay the extra $4 or so to buy it on site! LOL! What a pain!

Thanks for the help though. I jsut was not sure you could pack wine in your case or not.
