WINE! Help! What tastes good? Health question.

I'm from Spain and people there drink a lot of wine, I have the same exact problem Beth , with low cholesterol and also low blood pressure ( I always have to be the opposite to everyone else you know?? ) and I was also told by the doctor to have a glass of wine a day, let's just say you finish your day very relaxed, LOL.
I don't drink it everyday though but I do every now and then.

To fully take advantage of the wine, you should drink red. The tannin and the stuff (I forgot the name) from the grape skin is the key to lowering cholesterol.

But if you just start, you won't like red wine. Start with a fruity white (Pinot Gri, Chardonnay, Reisling), then graduate to smooth / easy red (Merlot). Then spicier red (Shiraz). And eventually the big red (Cabernet).

Gallo $11 has very very good cab/ merlot.
Rosemont (from Aussie) has cheap great Shiraz and cab. $7.

Once you get to full bodied red, you will never want to go back to white.

Wow! Thanks for the advice everyone! We are definatly going to be buying some to try this weekend and I will let you all know what I think!

It could be a great new hobby as well!

And a great excuse to go to Epcot Food and Wine festival. Just say the doctor orders you to do so. :)

Just wanted to add a couple of sugestions I hadn't seen yet. A couple of whites that are reaaly good- not too dry, not too sweet are Frascati and Orvieto. Folanari makes some pretty good ones and they are very reasonble- under $10.00.
Also a couple of reds that I really like are Beaujelais (sp?) and red zinfadel. Beaujelais is a slightly dry red but very smooth. Red Zin is made from the same grape as the white zin but w/ the red the skins are left in durring fermentation while the skins are removed much earlier w/ the white. White zin is too sweet to me but the red is fruity and very drinkable.
Hope this helps and that ya'll have fun experimenting to find a wine you like.
