I am looking for some opinions...

I would like to buy my friend who lives in the USA, a bottle of wine. Since I don't drink wine, I have NO clue what to look for! Here are the requirements...

I want it to be from Canada, not available in the USA

Her tastes are as follows:

She prefers white wine.
She enjoys Pinot Noirs and Pinot Grigios (sp?)
She doesn't like sweet wines

So, with all that said, any suggestions??? Like I said I don't drink wine and have NO clue so any help would be appreciated!

Thanks guys! :thumbsup2

Hi Timon,

Not knowing what wines are available in Calgary, I suggest you go to http://www.wineaccess.ca/ and download the results of the 2006 Canadian Wine Awards. You should be able to get something great from that list. For BC wines I'm a fan of NK 'Mip Cellars, Burrowing Owl Estate Winery and Quails' Gate Estate and try to buy them whenever I find them in Ontario.

Be sure to look for Pinot Gris as well as Pinot Grigio. The latter is the Italian spelling.

I suggest checking these places out.

-Willowpark Wine Store
-Kensington Wine Market
-The Wine Shop
-J Webb Wine Merchants

I have shopped may times at Willowpark and have found them to be very knowlegeable. I cannot suggest as my tastes are completely opposite.

Ok, thanks guys! I appreciate your input! Guess I will go to Willow Park and ask their opinions.

Thanks! :woohoo:

Sorry to squeeze in here... but I've got some input from the States.

I've shopped at Kensington Wine Market before, they are very knowledgeable and have a great selection. Eau Claire Wine Market also has knowledgeable staff, their prices are better than I expected, and they are very convenient if you work downtown.

That said, all (at least most) of the Ontario wines are available in the US, as well as wine from Quebec. We're just beginning to see a few BC wines in the States, they are still very hard to come by, and it's not likely that she's had any of them.

I'm a huge fan of the Quails Gate and Jackson-Triggs wines.

Sorry to butt in.

Anne
