Wine & Dine Half Relay $$$

Chris: I agree with you 100%.

Disney is a magical place and we should NEVER question anything the Mouse does. We should be greatful they allow us to run in their parks.

It is also an expensive place. The tickets go up every year. The races go up every year and until they stop selling out every single race they will go up. Again if people don't like the prices stop going (Not directed at you, but anyone.)

Chris: Agreed. I didn't do the last 2 ToT's after doing the first one. They raised the prices too high for me. I know a lot of people who were like me. That probably help lead to the race being discountinued.

Tricia (and all others who run/walk/race for charities)-although, thankfully, I have never had the need, I do want to extend my thanks to you and all others who give of their time and talents to not only participate in events such as the Disney races, but who also use them to do good for others.

ETA: Sorry if off topic.

Thanks Bill - its a wonderful feeling.

Too bad I couldn't represent my team more then I did during the race weekend - I was just bundled up too much for my shirt to be seen except right at the finish of the full.

Disney is such a "first marathon" or a "once and done destination" race that I doubt prices will come down in the near future. When I ran my first marathon at Disney I never even considered the cost. I so much wanted to run the Disney marathon. That is the way with many of the runners. They don't pay that much attention to the cost because it is Disney, they want to experience it and it will most likely not be an annual event.

For us crazy people that like to go back and punish ourselves each year it is a different story. We look at cost because it isn't that once in a lifetime event.

I just checked prices for the Florida 70.3 tri (which I will run in 2011) and it is $260 plus Active fees on top. That is this year, I am sure next year it will go up. Do I care? Nope because I really want to participate in that race. next time I might care, but this will be my first half Ironman and I am willing to pay what it cost. And to think, no characters or other special Disney stuff.

enjoy,
Duane

Funny, I didn't see the cost of entry as being high for Disney.

After running a night race new year's eve I am tempted to jump right on in.

On the charity thing, it was really kind of weird as the "Go Team" yells were few and far between and very muffled when heard. I too thank you guys for doubling your training load and supporting a cause!

If I am not mistaken that's the entry for all races in the 70.3 series. You will like the race except for the love bugs.

Disney's cost is higher than most other races I do, absolutely. However, the support along the race course is so above and beyond any other race that I am okay with the price. I ran a half marathon last November that did not have a single bathroom stop or first aid station along the way. It had 4 water stops. When I run Disney marathon weekend, I know that I'm never far from help if, God forbid, I need it. I have never run another race with such amazing support and aid.

As far as characters go, I don't stop and take pictures but I do enjoy seeing them as I go by. I finished the marathon in a little over 4:30 and thought there were plenty of characters out. I guess I'm saying that I enjoy seeing them, but it doesn't play into my decision to run Disney marathon weekend.

Obviously there are a myriad of opinions here, but this board always seemed to stay above the fray of personal attacks and sarcasm. It is possible to debate an issue without resorting to that type of response. I hope this board will remain a fun place to visit, even if I don't post much. :flower3:

If you want support along the course then run MCM, way better than WDW.

Actually that depends on where in the pack you fall. The Marines were awesome support, but much of the crowd support had dwindled for me as a back-of-the-packer. Even the large crowd at the tidal basin was gone by the time I was leaving it. :confused3 I could hear them when we ran in and then when we left no one was there.

Running Girl - The vast majority of people on the WISH board are helpful and encouraging to others and able to offer their opinions in a fair manner. However there are a couple of people that seem to come over and try to stir up controversy and argue with people, seemingly just for the fun of it. There have been threads closed and posts deleted when this happens and people get their feelings hurt because of it.

Most of the time the threads are fine and stay away from the personal attacks. I hope you continue to visit and participate in the future.

The support I was talking about was that by the Marines.

I couldn't agree more.

Personally my feeling is if you post all the time or post once in a blue moon it shouldn't matter. We are all here for the same reason and that's to stay healthy and talk about Racing and Disney racing in particular.

As Bill said "Most of the time the threads are fine and stay away from the personal attacks. I hope you continue to visit and participate in the future."

I would not pay the fee they are asking for running part of a half but for people who can't do 13.1 and want to do a fall race it is a good option. As for eliminating the smaller races, I understand why. There is no way I could justify going down to Disney from Ohio to run anything short of a half. I always wanted to do the fall races but I just couldn't justify it. Now, I am not 100% for the inaugural half because I am doing the full in Jan 2011 but I am considering it which is something I wouldn't have even done for either of the old races. The nighttime half is unique and is something I am really looking forward to doing eventually. Again, I wouldn't really care that much about the party afterwords, it is the running through the parks at night that would draw me in. I could see the run getting modified after the first year but if I can't make it down this year I know I can't do it until 2012 because of a trip to Europe I am planning in the fall of 2011. I do hope it holds on until at least then.

I don't really care about characters on the course. I do the run to meet up with the WISH people in person, run through the parks, and get the unique medals. I do realize that people do care about the characters but I am not one of them.

Would I prefer Disney races to be cheaper? Of course I would. I would also love the tickets, food, resorts, souvenirs, and everything else to be cheaper. Unfortunately Disney and cheap don't really go together very well. I realize this and plan accordingly.

Just my opinion of course. Take it for what it is worth, which may be very little.

What Bill said.

This is one of those races I mentioned above. One of those that you don't plan on doing often but hey it is an inaugural and it is a nighttime race. I loved the TOT 13K because it was at night.

I'll be there for the 2 reasons above, night time and inaugural.

enjoy,
Duane

I noticed they didn't have the course maps posted yet but the course sounds interesting. It would go through 3 theme parks - and its a different route then I have done before. I also love that its the inaugural - I seem to be doing alot of those lately. I am not too thrilled about the 10PM start because with my time in a half it will be after midnight when I am done. But besides that I most likely will do this.

I also agree that Disney offers something unique and special that makes it worth the extra money. From a business perspective, it seems perfectly logical to raise the prices until they hit a point where they don't sell out the races. Just like the rest of us, they too need to survive in a bad economy - and if raising the prices of the races and cutting some of the benefits is how they do it, then as long as we are willing to pay the price, we really can't complain.

Am I thrilled about the cost of the entry fee (be it marathon weekend's half, full or goofy, or Princess, DL or W&D)? No. But will I pay it without complaint? You better believe it. I love Disney races. I love the courses. I love seeing the characters. I love the support. I love seeing all of my friends.

Disney actually only makes about $5 per entry fee on the races, if they make anything at all. In the past, they have actually lost money on the race. They make their money on the resorts, park tickets and restaurants that people use while they are there. There are so many costs that go into the races that most people don't even think about it. I can't think of any other race that has to pay as many employees as Disney does in order to put the race on. Constantly increasing minimum wage requirements (which in turn increases what they have to pay higher ranking cast members) makes it harder to get extras out on the course.

Bottom line - as long as we pay the price they ask, they will increase it, especially as costs increase for them.

Now - I'm off to register for DL, W&D and the 2011 Goofy.

If I read this correctly from DIS, my family will need to buy tickets to see me cross the finish line.

ALL spectators are required to purchase a Finish Line Party Ticket in order to view the finish line of Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon and Half Marathon Relay. This is a specially ticketed event and requires a separate ticket. Annual Passes and Cast Member entrance are not valid for this special event.

This was taken from their website.

Is that correct?
