Wine Country or Celebration Roundup?

I know this may sound silly, because they look so different, but we're trying to decide between Wine Country and Celebration Roundup for dinner on our last night.

We're staying at GCH in August, and over three days, we already have Storytellers for dinner, Carnation Cafe for lunch, Blue Bayou for dinner and Storytellers Character Breakfast. We have three boys (ages pre-school to pre-teen) and we would be sold on Celebration Roundup if they still had Woody and Jessie, but I understand they don't have characters there anymore.

Thoughts or suggestions? Is there another great place that we're missing?

IMHO: Hands down Celebration Roundup. Food is MUCH better and even though the characters are gone there is an interactive stage show that is great for kids.

Depends. I've never been to the Wine Country Trattoria, but I was at the Round-up in May. It's a good bang-for-your-buck if your boys eat a lot (and, yes, the food is pretty darn tasty). When I ate there, it was our one "real" meal and we (my aunt, mom, and uncle in addition to myself) ate more than I thought we would (thus, it was a good deal for the price). The casual atmosphere may be better for kids, too. As a previous poster mentioned, there's still performers and an interactive show.

Thank you!!! The allears menu is what interested our oldest in Celebration Roundup initially. As WDW vets, we are avid "menu readers," so the food at Celebration Roundup seems to fit our boys' preferences a little better, and got us thinking about the switch.

I'd love additional opinions, and more information about the current show. We've done hoop-de-doo and Ohana many times at WDW, but our pre-teen boys are not as interested in those types of shows anymore. (We're taking them both off the list for our next trip.) But they can get into them if they aren't too corny - or corny but cute - or so appealing to our pre-schooler that everyone has fun watching him enjoy it.

I would absolutely pick the BBQ over WCT. We have eaten at both and we did not enjoy our meal at WCT very much. That said, they have a new menu now so it might be different but I would still pick the BBQ over WCT.

The show at the BBQ is really someone playing guitar and singing or someone wandering with a guitar and singing. It's really non-intrusive (unless you look like you want to be approached) but it's fun to watch. For us it's the food, but the experience has always been good as well. It's absolutely all you can eat (so go hungry) and the food is very very very good!!!!!

Although I haven't been to WCT since the reopening and I understand the menu has changed somewhat, I would still recommend Celebration Roundup for any party with kids. The atmosphere is laid back, it is in the park but away from the craziness, and the food is delish if you're a barbecue fan. :) I don't know that we've ever seen much of the stage show on our visits, but we've always enjoyed our dining experience there. We did have one visit that was less than stellar because of a seriously lacking waitress, but if something similar happens again we will make a point to speak to a manager right away and be reseated. If you end up going and getting Carol as your server, she's wonderful! We may actually eat there a little too frequently.

There are NO characters at the barbeque anymore. What is there is an entertainer with a guitar who strolls around the tables and sings western songs, greats birthday folk, etc., very low key and friendly. There is also sometimes a piano player.

The show is fun for everyone and kids like it! We think the food is great and this is our favorite haunt for a meal.

The face characters (Jessie and Woody) are often outside the barbeque area in the walkway around the back side of Thunder Mt.

Another vote for Celebration Roundup! We loved, loved, loved it! Great entertainment, fabulous food and a wonderful casual, fun, relaxed atmosphere! Definitely the most memorable and enjoyable meal we've ever had at DLR!:thumbsup2

Funball as everyone said in their replies there are no characters at the BBQ anymore. When it first opened there were characters, Woody, Bullseye & Jessie (we had our photo taken with Jessie) the meal price also included your drink and desserts but people weren't willing to pay that much for "just BBQ" so they took the characters out and changed the prices, now you pay extra for drinks other than water and you have to order your desserts. It's still the same menu and it's still all you can eat but instead of characters they have performers as decribed in my pp. Now these performers WERE there when the characters were but now the show is a slightly different. :)

Yes I know that pixie.. but some other thread someone said that there still is characters.. lol ..

Oh, maybe you can link them? It gets confusing when people start to confuse subjects in a thread. LOL I was confused. :)

Thanks so much again for all the responses! Given all the votes for Celebration Roundup, we changed our priority seating. We'd like to combine this with a visit to see Woody and Jessie outside - does anyone know what times they are available?

You should be able to find out about character meet and greet times at City Hall or inquire with a CM at the restaurant. If they don't know, they can definitely find out for you. :) We've been able to see them pretty frequently in that area. I hope you and your group enjoy the experience!
