Wine and Dine 2015

Just had Happy Hour with my Mom at the new Hangar Bar at Disney Springs - I advise EVERYONE to stop in, even just for a quick drink or snack or peek around the joint. It's fabulous.

I was considering this...have you been to Trader Sam's too? And if so, where would you rank the Hangar bar vs that?

Got my gift card today - woohoo! No standing in line for me. I got home from work later than I'd planned to so I only got in 9 miles before it was dark. Our sidewalks around here are not even and I just did not want to risk tripping this close to the race. I am going to run 3 tomorrow morning to get to 12 while my legs are still feeling it. Then it is all just short runs and speed work until I leave on the 5th! I have to admit I am kind of ok with the weather outlook so far. 50's and 60's are too cold for me! I nearly wear gloves for those. I would be happy with high 60's or very low 70's.

I did also have a sore hip flexor towards the end of this run. I have had it before and it faded away pretty quickly on its own without any real issues. But, this close, everything freaks me out! And I can't even take my airborne because the new one I bought was cracked when I opened it and looked disgusting :(

Wait? You get a medal if you don't finish? Only Disney. And don't worry guys I've been hurt and a mess, and in a later corral so I'll be doing all I can to get through. I'll be there with the angry face power walking my way. I'm sure we'll all be fine though! Injuries aside it's all mental.

And no gift card up here in the north east yet. I did get my Anna wig a day early though. It's part of a very epic Halloween costume.

Not just Disney. I believe RnR also give you your medal. Ton of butt hurt people say their race admission includes the medal so they legally should get it finish or not.

I don't actually know if I like that. As I've said I've been hurt and should be able to do it, but if I can't I'll 100% be donating it. It would just feel weird to keep it. What do they do give it to you on the sweep bus?

Yes and from my understanding they try to push it on you if you want it or not. The volunteers tell you you did a great job and did what you could so you should take it etc.

Whoa! Really?!?!
Well I'll be disappointed .... (And most likely sick!) if I don't finish.... But, for me, I just can't see keeping a medal I didn't "earn" by completing the challenge that earns you the medal.
To each his own I guess.

Who would you donate a medal to?

Medals4Mettle is a good one. It technically says it has to be "earned" but I don't know if that means you have to finish. They only accept half marathon, full, or tri medals. They switch the ribbon and give it to people (usually kids) who have faced a battle of their own including but not limited to cancer, NICU, genetic disorders, etc.

Who would you donate a medal to?

There's an organization called Medals4Mettle that gives medals to kids who have been battling sickness, such as cancer. My local running store collects medals that people donate for this reason. We had a little girl come by one of our group runs who had received a princess medal. It's pretty cool to see her excited about her medal.

You CAN refuse it. They can try to push it on you, but nothing says you have to take it. They aren't holding a gun to your head. I may not be coming, but if I do and if I attempt and don't finish, I will NOT be taking one. If they try to make me, I'll drop it right there in front of them.

I'll take it with the end result being a donation to Medals4Mettle. I'd rather see someone who faught a medical battle get it then the volunteer pocket it or even worse it end up for sale at theme park connection.

I just believe in the "earned" part of their request. If I didn't earn it, I'm not donating it. I'm not even taking it. It is a FINISHER'S medal, not a participant's medal.

To those that were suggesting or talking about getting the Justin's peanut butter packets, did you grab them locally by your home, or did you get them from Amazon?
I ordered a box of 10 packets off Amazon, it was like $8. They have individual packets at my supermarket, but only of a couple types of almond butters, and I like peanut butter best. I got a box because I eat pb every day... I'm a little bit of a pb-holic. :o

For the dining question, I am eating at Tony's Town Square on Friday... nothing fancy. We were going to be in MK on Saturday and that was one of the few places that still had ADR available. On Saturday we are eating a late-ish lunch (2pm) at Disney Springs at the Rainforest Cafe. Also nothing fancy, but they have pasta dishes, and my dad likes it there, so I'll go listen to the screeching monkeys and elephants for him sinc he is staying up way past his bedtime to see me for like 15 seconds crossing the finish line. :) I am planning to do race day breakfast for dinner (oatmeal, banana, then maybe also bring a bagel to the starting area).

So my fiancé and I got our Wine & Dine gift cards but we are confused. Are the gift cards to pay for Food and Wine after the run? Is 15$ enough? Can you add money to the Wine & Dine card? Are the gift cards good for any Disney park?

Wow, I hope you're not that rude to every volunteer you encounter. (Key word: volunteer.)

Exactly! The volunteers are what make these races happen. If they weren't there, we wouldn't be either, and they need to be thanked heartily and often when we see them during a race. Politely decline a medal if you don't want it because you didn't finish, and move on. If it's forced on you, say thank you, put it in your pocket, and donate it or give it to a kid in the park as you're walking around.

I'm sorry, but no means NO regardless of the context. If a volunteer chooses to exert power to force me to take a medal, I WILL drop it in front of them. They can offer it once, but they should respect my wish NOT to take it.

Wow. Just, wow.

What a way to bring a thread down that's supposed to be excited and supportive.

Is there anything you're even remotely excited about regarded the upcoming weekend? I know pretty much everyone else here is ...

Pretty much no. I hate running right now (haven't liked it a bit since Goofy - worst idea I ever had) and really don't want to go at all now. Even when I liked running I just don't get the "OMG I CAN'T DO IT!!!" "OMG WHAT COSTUME AM I WEARING??" stuff. It's a race. That's all.

I'm just waiting on approval of moving a personal business day from Monday to Friday and then I can do something I really want to do that weekend.

But even if I was, I find it offensive that were I to try and not finish, I'd be expected to take something I didn't earn and clearly said "No thank you" to just so I didn't hurt a volunteer's feelings. Just because they're volunteers doesn't mean listening and respecting of opinions goes out the window. They should be trained that if someone says no to an offered medal IT IS OK.

We get it. You won't take a medal. I'll be sure to get the name of every volunteer holding down a poor defenseless runner and forcing a medal around their neck so they can be handled appropriately. :rolleyes2

Anyway ...
Omg Tu Tu Tango is STILL around? We used to go there in the late 90's early 00's!! No idea it was still popular lol

Thanks for the tip on city walk. We might have to try that place out too!!

Yup! It's still hugely popular! We tried to go for dinner last week and someone had rented half the restaurant for a huge party! They've scaled the menu back, but it's still a fun, yummy place. Plus, the sangria ... Oh, the sangria!

I was considering this...have you been to Trader Sam's too? And if so, where would you rank the Hangar bar vs that?

Hmmmm. That's a good question. I think it's kinda hard to compare the two, since they're really so different. Trader Sam's is more about the "bits" - the drinks and chants and stuff, whereas Hangar is just a really cool themed-lounge that's definitely laidback and more chill. That said, drinks at Hangar are cheaper and a little more high-quality, but also slightly more basic than at Sam's.

If I'd never been to either, I'd do Sam's because there's probably nothing like it where I live - but I wouldn't go out of my way for a repeat visit.

Hope that helps!
