Wine and Dine 2015

This is where I have been on the morning runs, but last night's hill run was in the low 80's at the start. It felt miserable. This hasn't been a good year. For the mid season runs I've felt like I'm on the edge of a heat injury with every workout. If it's in the 80's at the start for us I might go play in the Clif Bar Pace group a corral or two behind me. Then find something in January for a PB...

I ran around sunset last night and it started off pretty miserable, but once the sun set and a breeze picked up, it was lovely! A cold front's coming through next week, so there's hope :)

Am I the only one that got a notification about Hurricane Patricia and promptly panicked thinking torrential downpours were in store for the race?

Not only you. My DH got a notification this morning and asked me if that would impact us. I haven't even looked at anything about it yet, so don't know if it will be a problem or not.

Patricia is in the Pacific Ocean, not the Atlantic. No problems for Florida, but the west coast of Mexico will get walloped in the next day or so.

Yeah looks like Patricia will be ok for us - though I still fear it will mess with the weather patterns a little. I am certainly no meteorologist, but hearing it is the biggest tracked hurricane is a little concerning! I hope Mexico comes out somewhat ok :(

I am hoping the humidity won't bother me too much... maybe I'm too far out from summer now though. :) I trained in the humidity a lot from July to mid-Sept, though.

No impact from Patricia at all here in FL. We are expecting a "cold" front toward the end of next week, though: just some rain and cooler temps.

Okay what exactly is this clif bar pace group thing. Obviously a pace group, but now I'm curious. What corral are they in?

The Clif Bar Pace Team are a group of individuals who volunteer to run events at a specific pace. The pace leaders carry balloons marked with the finish time goal and will be located within the corral for that time. My experience has been if you run with the pace leader you will finish within a few seconds of their target time. They tend to draw a crowd around them which can be difficult to run through if you catch them on the road.

Thank you! That actually sounds good for me with the injuries. I may have to seek them out to keep me on track. I'm getting so excited. Two weeks and a day away!!!!!

Most likely:

Corrals/Finish Time
A 1:40
B 1:50
C 2:00
E 2:15
F 2:30
G 2:45
H 3:00

I'm pretty sure Mike R. was the 3:00 pacer at Disneyland! I tried to keep up with the pace group, but it was so crowded and congested through the park portion of the DLH that I lost them. Looking forward to trying again at W&D.

I ran with one of the leaders in my first half back (DL 1/2 in 2014) as I tend to jackrabbit start. Ran with him for 8-9 miles and then sped up a little to the finish, easily meeting my goal for the race. I found it helpful as our pace leader talked with us throughout, gave out training tips, tips about the course (elevation changes, sharp corners, water stations), warnings over hazards and changes in terrain/surface, recommendations on when to take gels. No picture stops though, if you stop you have to accelerate a little to catch back up.

For the Wine & Dine the team will have pace leaders for 1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:15, 2:30, 2:45 and 3:00.

So if I want to try running with the 3:00 group I will have to pass 3000 people first! Not counting the ones in my corral. :(
By the time you caught the pace leader you would be so far ahead of 3:00 pace it would likely cause more problems. A good running watch combined with training and self control in the first couple of miles and keeping your goal pace will be easy.
