Wine and Dine 2015

Well, I just ran for the first time ever on a treadmill. I must say, I prefer running outside! I couldn't figure out how to set it for 60/30 intervals, so I just kept manually changing the speed. I did 2.0 miles in 36:00 but I spent the first 5 minutes walking to warm up. I guess I should have reset it after my warm up so I would have an accurate per mile time, but I will figure it out, lol! I spent the first minute running figuring out how to let go of the rails and run without flying off the end! :)

I have yet to find a treadmill that will easily allow you to program custom intervals. It seems like such a simple thing, so it surprises me that they don't all have that function. I'm sure it's available on at least one model, but my gym certainly doesn't have any! Oh, one of the super new ones WILL let you create your own program, but they pre-pick the length of interval and you have to fiddle with each one on a pretty lousy touchscreen so I just gave up and did it manually.

Oh good! It's not just me, lol! Seriously how hard would it be for them to put that in a treadmill? We have a Wellness Center where I work and I am lucky to be able to go down and workout during my workday. The person who was working there is super nice, but he was busy with a client (we are a residential facility for developmentally disable people), so I didn't want to interrupt him to ask. Maybe tomorrow. Or I may just wing it again. The downside to working out at work is our dress code doesn't allow shorts on the rest of the campus, so I just wore sweats so I could change before I walked down there. Boy! By the time I was done I was sooo hot! Tomorrow I will change down there for sure!

Question about the post-race party...

I was reading that blog post about the race someone posted back a page or two (great recap, BTW) and noticed they stayed in their running costumes for the party. Do most people just stay in their running garb for the party or do they pack a bag with a change of clothes. We've never bothered with a bag check before but we are also always going right back to our lodging. Not sure I'd want to stay in sweaty running clothes all night, but also not keen on carrying around a bag with with running clothes in it either. What do others do?

I really would like to stay in my costume. I think it will make for cuter pictures. I was thinking of just brining flip flops/alternate shoes for us and some wipes, deodorant, etc to clean up with. We'll see what we decide to do though probably depending on the weather.

Ugh...I'm taking a week off of running because I've been having some tendonitis (I think) in my foot, and it's killing me to not be able to train. Especially since my foot feels fine now after just 3 days off. But, I'm supposed to run a half on June 13th, so I guess it's better to take 7-10 days now and let it heal rather than push through and have to take 4-6 weeks off later. I forgot about this part of training. I'm super injury-prone, I think because I have slight scoliosis so I'm never exactly "even" when I run.

It's always a good thing to listen to your body! Hope the rest helps and you're ready to rock and roll again soon!

Tambu Lounge?

Yes!!!!! Thank you! I have no clue why I couldn't think of it earlier!

I just want to say thank you to everyone for the fuel suggestions. I've never run more than 7 miles and haven't needed to fuel before during a race. I just normally eat a Luna bar or a piece of toast with peanut butter prior to my runs. I guess a trip to the running store is in order so I can pick up some different things to try.

I've wanted to try Nuun too for a while. What kind of belts does everyone use to carry water/fuel? Does anyone use a handheld water bottle? (I've seen some that wrap onto your hand?) Since most of my longer runs will be in the summer here I need some options during my runs I think.

I don't have a hydration belt because I haven't started running long distances yet. I did however recently get a Running Buddy Pouch from Amazon and finally got to use it and I love it. I can't stand those arm bands but needs something. This holds on with magnets and is big enough for my iPhone, car key and tissues. I did a 5 mile run with it and it doesn't move around at all

Ironically I have a running buddy! I have used it for quite a few 10Ks, but sometimes I think I fill it too full and it doesn't snap and stay in place. I ended up carrying it during the Enchanted 10K because it wouldn't stay on. If it's just my phone it works, but seems to not hold to much else without coming loose. However, I'm one of those people who would just have that luck! And I definitely prefer it to the arm band! I hate those things!

I just invested in a CamelBak for when I start the longer runs. At this point it will be a little while before I need it, as I'm restarting the 5K-10K. I think the germs have finally been exterminated so I'm back to running tomorrow morning for the first time in at least 2 weeks.

DW figured out how to get one of the LifeFitness treadmills at our local JCC to do intervals. I should be running there the next couple of days, and will try to write down the details of the machine and how to do it. It was in the "advanced programs" section, I think. Once you set your 2 "run" speeds, you then use an icon that appears on the screen to 1-touch change between the 2 speeds. It can be a run/walk setting, or training pace/tempo pace.

So I need to add some music to my running playlist since hopefully my runs will be getting longer.
Was wondering if anyone had any songs they really like to run to and would want to share?

Some of my favorites that I have now are
Dynamite-Taio Cruz
I Wanna Get Better-Bleachers
Feel This Moment-Pitbull
Love Runs Out-One Republic
Hall of Fame-The Script
Hell Yeah-Midnight Red

Also been meaning to download the soundtrack from Guardians of the Galaxy because that had some great music!
Thanks!

I love this!!

I used to perform in Spectro (as a Butterfly) ... that score is probably my favorite.

And Remember the Magic - though I mostly did that parade as a pre-parade Coach, teaching littles all the parade stop routines.

I've never done a night race before. I have a meal and rest plan based on morning races that works really well for me - but I'd love to hear about how others approach a night time race. I'll be doing two back to back in November!

I have one of those and it goes with me every run. Or even just a hike through the trails. I stick my keys in the pocket and don't need to worry about where I am going to stash them while I'm out. And the added benefit of a bag of ice on your back in the summer can be spectacular!:sunny::sunny::sunny::sunny:

Does anyone use a handheld water bottle? (I've seen some that wrap onto your hand?)
I did get a handheld water bottle (Nathan QuickDraw Plus) for my 11.5 miler along with all the gels. I am a really heavy sweat-er and I drink a lot, plus I knew I'd need water to take with the gels. It has a hand strap on the bottle that also has a pouch holder and holds 22 oz of water, which I knew would not be enough. I went through about 64 oz on my 10 mile treadmill run! My gym bottle is a 32 oz bottle and I refilled it halfway through. :)

The bottle worked out pretty well. I used the pouch to hold my gels and my license and my money, although it was a really tight squeeze with 3 gels in the pouch. I might need 4 for my 13 miler... I'll have to hold one I guess. I planned a route that got me to a Dunkin Donuts around the 5-5.5 mile mark, and I stopped in there to buy a bottled water to refill the handheld one with. I'm going to do the same thing when I do my route for this Saturday's 13 miler, although I might need to plan around 2 stops to buy water. I ended up drinking the last of the water bottle around mile 9.5-10 last time.

There were two downsides to using it, though. With the bottle strapped to my hand, I couldn't use my case that I have to strap my phone to my hand (Amphipod HandPod). :) I prefer that one to an armband one since I can fiddle with Pandora and RunKeeper more easily with the phone strapped in the palm of my hand rather than onto my arm. I have a pair of bluetooth earbuds so the headphones are not an issue with the phone out in my hand. But I ended up using my armband case that I have and strapping it to my forearm instead of my upper arm so that I could see it better and it was ok. The second issue was that carrying around the weight of the water made my trapezius muscle really sore, that one that goes from the side of your neck to your shoulder. I probably should have swapped hands, but I didn't think of it until I was finishing the last of the water, and I swapped them then, but it just felt really weird in my right hand, and I ended up moving it back. I'm used to having my phone strapped to my left hand all the time.

I actually thought that part of the BC bar is accessible to the public, just like hurricane hannahs. The accessible portion would be just to the left of the food counter. Also, I would suggest the grand Floridian or animal kingdom lodge pool bars as well. They all have a few tables right next to the bar.

Totally blanking on the name, but we got drinks at the bar outside of O'hana at the Poly after the PHM midday. The bartenders name was Walter and he mixed a mean drink! I had a Mai Tai, as did a couple other friends, and some of our group got Lapu Lapus. Delish!

Thanks for all the help! I knew you awesome people would have some suggestions for me! I keep telling DH how awesome my disboard friends are!

I use fitletic. I have this belt: http://www.amazon.com/Fitletic-Ulti...=UTF8&qid=1427292930&sr=1-4&keywords=fitletic

You can buy the water bottles separate and add them on. I like this feature for when I do shorter races and won't need my own hydration but still want to carry my phone, keys, etc. It also has a place to hold your race bib. I don't know about anyone else here...but I HATE pinning those things on bc I can never get them straight. I will repin my bib 12 times and still won't get it right. The belt holds lots of stuff bc it has some elastic slots on the outside where I can put gels or shotblocs. I've had it for about 8 months now and absolutely love it. DH just got one for his birthday and is very happy with it so far too.

I have a question for those who have run Disney races before. Is the water they give you at the water stops the same stinky Orlando tap water that you get in the parks? On our trip there last month my daughter was fine with it, but the only way I could stomach it was to add a flavor packet and I can't see myself doing that during a race. :)

Nope! It's straight from a Dasani water bottle! They even use the Dasani water to mix the powerade as well! Nothing but the good stuff from Disney! Guess that's part of the high price tag on the races.

Awesome! Thanks so much! That makes me much happier, lol! :)

I just purchased a Fitletic hydration belt. I tried it out last week on my first outdoor run. Just 3.75 miles because I didn't want to be uncomfortable for too long if I hated it. Once I got it adjusted properly I found it quite comfortable. I tried a different belt in the past and it bounced around way too much, but the Fitletic is made with a stretchy material so you can get it pretty tight but it still has some give. I also purchased an add-on sleeve for my iPhone so that I don't have to be going in and out of the pockets to look at/use the phone. Don't know if I'll use the bib-attachment things, because I'm not sure I'll like having my bib that low on my body, but we'll see.

Last time I did a half I used a handheld bottle. It was okay, but I really prefer to have my hands free. I had to switch hands fairly often because it got a little tiring to be carrying something in one hand the whole time. Plus the water tends to warm up from your body temperature and that makes it a little icky by then end of a long run.

I have a bunch of Disney stuff on my running playlist, and sometimes I put on the "Disney music" channel on Pandora. I find Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious will really get me moving. :yay:
