Have booked a 5 bed villa in windsor palms next year. Has anyone stayed there ? is it nice ? I understand its close to wdw - we stayed on the 192 last year and I recall it being pretty close but i havent stayed in an orlando villa before.
Johnny sharp - have you had a look at this complex ? I know you have given lots of good advice to others - the pictures look nice and it faces south. Like you we have to go in August so i know its scorching !

Thanks all

Hi David, thanks for the compliment.

I have never stayed on Windsor Palms, but have stayed at Indian Creek which is next door, and where we are staying this August.

WP is one of the best developments I have seen, it is very nice, in addition the location is ideal.
You have restaurants nearby, including the excellent Outback steakhouse at nearby Formosa Gardens, a Publix supermarket - turn left at the junction of the 192 and FG boulevard and it's just up the road on the right hand side.
Access to Disney and the I4 is very good also.

To be honest in my opinion the location of the villas around the FG area cannot be beat.

August is very hot yes, however if you visit the theme parks at the quieter times of the day , get there 1st thing in the morning etc you will be fine - and having a villa means you can relax when you feel like it.
As you say you have a south facing pool, this is ideal as you get the sun all day long.

You have made great choices in my opinion mate. :thumbsup2

Thanks johnny,

Stayed in hotel last year and visited friends in a villa while we were there. I agree with you that its easier to chill out in a villa. Great for the kids too as when we get home in the evening they can jump in the pool. They did that in the hotel last year but we could't see them from our room so one of us had to be there too.
All things considered i think a villa suits us best - with a fridge full of beer !

Will be interested to see what you think of the boardwalk after youv'e been it looks and sounds nice. Hope Josh loves it!

Feeling depressed that we have to wait a year but when we go we tend to splash out rather a lot and just couldn't do it every year - although mainly due to price of August flights! We also go for 3 weeks to make the most of it.

I too am working from home - aint it great !!

We stayed at windsor palms last september, the villa was fantastic and the location great ( another thumbsup for the outback), sorry i cannot comment on the clubhouse and pool facilities ans we were too busy to use them!!

Working from home is great yes, August prices are a pain I know, we are going for 3 weeks too.

I will pick up some info for you and send you some photos of the Boardwalk if you like when I return, just PM me your address sometime after I return (30th August) and I will post them out to you.

The club house, pool are are all great. There is basket ball courts there to and a small shop for bits & peices. I'm sure there is a communal bbq area as well? If you are into golf the course next door offers discount for resiadents for Windsor Palms and it's a great course :)

We stayed for 3 weeks last year, LOVEd it and going back in Oct for another 3 weeks!
The location is fab, soooo close to AK.
Outback steak house very close and fab. win dixies and Sub way on same "block" of shops.

The swimmingpool and hot tub are great, small shop and pay rea, tenis courts, etc
24 hr security on gate.

Have a fab time! We love it

Another DISer "working" from home, here :wave2: .

Like you, we visited friends who were staying in a villa whilst we were at a hotel back in 1996. Our girls wanted to spend every spare minute in the hotel pool, so I know just what you mean on that front. It's been villas all the way for us ever since.

We often do what Johnny is doing and take one or two nights out to stay onsite, either at WDW or USF. It's great to be able to pack an overnight bag and know that you'll be returning to the calm, privacy and space (not to mention a fridge full of beer!) of a villa.

3 weeks is definitely the way to go, too. I hate that feeling at the start of the second week when you begin to think about having to go home. With a 3 week stay, you get to put that off for a week.

You won't be disappointed with Windsor Palms, David - both the community and its location are excellent. From WP you can be on WDW property in 5 minutes using the Sherberth Road shortcut.

Thanks Debbie,
I will check out the sherbeth road - i assume its sign posted.

I am thinking of booking a couple of nights on-site. We fancy the poly. Its still a year away for us though.

If you take a right onto 192 from FGB and then your first left that is Sherbeth Rd. it is a quick left so try to get over soon. At the light at the end of Sherbeth Rd to the left is AKL and to the right everything else is just read the signs.

Not long directions at all. Hae a wonderful vacation and may I suggest the Carrabbas along with the outback. Both are great.

We stayed at Windsor Palms in 2003 & loved it.

WE had 4 teenagers with us & they all enjoyed the club house, which they could use without us!

So close to WDW too.

Is it really just 5 mins?? We're looking at villas in Windsor Palms/Hills or Lindfields against staying at the comfort suites at Old Town... I really want a villa but DH is worried they look a bit far from the 192...

Lindfields is the oldest of all the communities and it would take quite a lot to convince me to stay there. It's a little bit further out than Windsor Palms/Hills, but all of them are very close to WDW property using the Sherberth Road shortcut. You really can be onsite within 5 minutes (maybe 10 from Lindfields depending on exactly where you are on that community). Once you hit property, the time to your ultimate destination will depend on exactly where that is. You're closest to AK; furthest from MK. By the time you've driven to the TTC, parked, caught the tram, the monorail/ferry, you're a good half hour away, but the same can be said for many onsite hotels.

Yes it really is - we are staying at Lindfields in August because we know it is so close :teeth:

LOL Debbie - you beat me to it tonight :rotfl2:

Must get another cocktail to speed my typing up ;)

I'm obviously a margarita or two ahead of you tonight, Karen! :rotfl2:

We timed our journey from our driveway at Windsor Palms to AK parking lot and it took 8 minutes. A bit less to AKL and a bit more to other Disney locations.

The new road being built might affect villas on the edge of WP.
