Windsor Palms or Emerald Island

Hi All

We have the chance to spend nearly three weeks in either Windsor Palms or Emerald Island next July (Windsor Hills is more expensive).

Does anyone have any views on which one is better, we are unlikely to spend much time using the facilities but looking more at the quality and space of the houses, how many are overlooked etc.

I am currently at Windsor Palms and have also been to Emerald Island. What size home are you looking at?

Windsor Palms is a smaller community overall, but has nice amenities. Largest home is a 6 bedroom. Because of the layout, a lot of WP homes are on the perimeter. Sun Palm Drive has homes that back onto the conservation area (but if that is important to you, be careful as one side of Sun Palm has homes that back onto other homes from Wyndham Palms Way. Some homes on Fan Palm Way back onto a retention pond. Spacing between homes is what I would call standard.

Emerald Island is a larger community. Largest home is a 7 bedroom. They have two series of homes there. There were 4 standard models built ranging in size from 3 to 7 bedrooms. These homes have standard spacing between them. Some of them back onto conservation area or overlook a green area. For more space, there was the Harbor Series homes which were built in an area known as The Enclave (Part of La Isla Drive). These were larger homes and larger lots. Some of them have larger spacing between the homes and back onto conservation area. These Palm Harbor homes were available in 4 - 7 bedrooms. The difference in travel times from Windsor Palms and Emerald Island is perhaps a minute.

Windsor Palms has more amenities, but Emerald Island has more overall space (as a community it is spread over a larger area, but has probably twice as many homes).

I chose a house in WP for our upcoming trip, based on price and the specific house.

We are a family with young kids. We wanted our house to have its own private pool so we won't plan on using the community facilities much. It's too much to haul them all around when we have what we need right outside our door.

Since you too won't be using the community facilities, pick a house that you'll be happy staying in for three weeks (lucky duck!!).

We used VRBO and it saved us a nice chunk of money. The property number on VRBO is 421395. It's on the corner and we only have one side neighbor so it should be somewhat private.
