Windsor Hills vs. Onsite Resort

Hey there,

Thanks OP for posting. This really is a great list. We have done both and we like both on and off site lodging. For us, it really comes down to price. If we factor in the rental car and compare the prices, generally off site comes out on top...especially because we are a family of five. While we LOVE the convienience of staying on site (and the Disney magic), the expense is generally just too much. A few years ago we got a super deal at the Villas at WL and it was awesome!! But, now we have a new baby and we'd probably need the 2-bedroom and on-site would be very expensive. If the hubby and I get our own trip (one day) or we decide to do a quick getaway with just one of the kids for a special celebration, we'd probably go for on-site. But, with the entire family, I say off site is the better match for our vacation dollars. But, both are fantastic as Disney IS the happiest place on earth!!

Happy planning pals!

Yeah, we are renting points from someone this trip and staying at DVC Boardwalk Villas. We are really excited! But we are only making it work by my parents coming so we can afford the two bedroom one. And even still we are spending a bit more than normal.

I agree with this list, and with what others are saying about the one to choose depends on several factors. For us, if we going for more than 4 nights, it has to be a rental condo or house. We have flown down, gotten the free dining plan and stayed in 2 rooms on-site. It was great, but more than 4 or 5 nights would be a killer for us, as we have pretty much 5 teenagers. My family LOVED our Reunion Resort 5 bedroom/5 bathroom house last July. I honestly didn't feel like the commute was bad at all, but I am interested in trying out Windsor Hills for a future trip. I am so happy being happy with both choices. Disney Resorts absolutely do have a "magical" feel and we enjoy them. But, spreading out and having a private pool has a magic all it's own!

I thought you guys might appreciate this over here. I know I would have years ago before experiencing them both myself and making my own call.

Thank you, OP! We (family of three) usually stay at POP, but we're taking my 21yo cousin with us next time, so we need an extra bed. I think I've found a great place at Windsor Hills (MUCH cheaper than AoA or ASM), and this article is very helpful!

We are staying at Windsor Hills in three weeks. With two teenaged boys, a small hotel room is just too cramped for us. Plus, my sister is coming with us for part of the trip. If we stayed on-site, we would need 2 rooms. One of the boys could sleep in my sister's room, but the cost would still be much higher than the 3-bedroom, 3-bath townhouse we're getting for $140 per night. My sister gets her own room and bathroom downstairs. DH and I get the master. The boys get a room with 2 twins, their own bathroom, TV and a Playstation. Older DS has Asperger's and gets anxious on crowded buses. We would rent a car even if we stayed on-site, so the extra cost doesn't really count for us. We do need to factor in parking, but it still comes out to be less expensive with a lot more space than on-site.

We were going to stay on site this trip but we are taking mom as my died dies a few weeks ago. We have decided Windsor hills will be much better for 3 adults and 2 kids....... other wise it would be 2 rooms at Disney and this is expensive for 2 weeks. WH is so close to the parks...we like Emerald Island too
