Hi,
We're going to Detroit for the hockey game, any ideas on things to do there or in Windsor? A don't miss place to eat or something good like that?
(yes I love food)
Thanks!!

good place to eat is the Tunnel BBQ.. is near the tunnel.. ribs and chicken..

yummy. I miss that place. Can you bring some back for me? :goodvibes

you are truly a person after my own heart! :thumbsup2 thanks for the suggestion, I love good bbq! we have an awesome Rotary club rib fest at the lake every year that we don't miss. Thanks!!!!

I will second Tunnel BBQ -- loved it when I went to school in Windsor.

The Tunnel is for sure a must try! Thanks.

How about shopping? We'll be at the downtown Marriott. Not having been in this area at all before, is there any shopping that would be easy to get to?
Thanks again.

There are some great restaurants along chatham street- I tried the tunnel Barbque but really wasn't impressed. Ottawa street area has some nice shopping and restaurants too

Thanks!! I've just checked Frommers and it mentioned an Irish pub and also Greek town. Can't wait!! Thanks again everyone.

The Irish Pub is likely "Patrick O'Ryans"... pretty good.

I think the coolest place to eat is on "Via Italia" (known as Erie Street) My suggestion for good food that is well priced is "Spago Trattoria".
This is a real Italian neighbourhood, centred around the Italian Church (St Angela). There are outdoor cafes and you can find real Gelato too!

Any other questions... fire away... been living here 44 years and I LOVE WINDSOR

Some great Italian dining can be found on Erie St.

If you're looking for something downtown...

• Chatham Street Grill
• The Cook Shop
(very intimate, and you need to call ahead for reservations)
• Chanosos
(great stir-frys)
• Pitt for Pasta
• Market Fresh Buffet
(in Casino Windsor - pricey, yet huge variety of tasty food)
• The Keg
• Plunkett's
• Pepper's Bar and Grill

hope this helps and have fun!

Are you staying at the Marriott in Detroit, at the Renassaince? If so, Greek Town is almost right across the street and is very good, the Greek Town Casino is also there. Mexican Town is awesome but isn't in the greatest neighbourhood and it is very close to the bridge rather than the tunnel. Also if you're staying in Detroit there is a place called Hockeytown, it's a bar/restaurant right across the street from Comerica Park.

Hi, we are back and had an awesome time. It's really gorgeous at the Marriott in the Renassiance Center. Right on the River Walk. We loved it. We went to the hockey game (not a good outcome for my Avs) what a great atmosphere, they truly love their sports there in Detroit. We went to the Old Shillelagh and that was a blast, then ended up eating at the End Zone in Greek Town. Amazing food, very casual diner. Then today after we crossed over we tried Tunnel BBQ and loved their shrimp, ribs, fries and coleslaw. Yum.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. We will definitely go back again, we had a fantastic time.

Thanks Ham Ham!! We had such a good time that my husband said maybe we should go back for Game 5. LOL.

I hope they'll be a game for Colorado 5.
Canadiens are on tonight.

Thanks Ham Ham!! Me too!!I will be so, so very sad if they don't have a game 5.

It was brutal to watch them lose so badly on Saturday. Sitting in that sea of 20,000 Red Wings fans at the Joe was tough, and it is such a bitter rivalry. One guy behind me was yelling, take out Sakic. Kill him. I poked my husband and he turned around and stared the guy down. I hate when people are mean like that.
