I hate Windows 8.

Bought DS a laptop for Xmas with win8...grr..
He's been using the admin account. I finally set up a standard user account for him but now we can't figure out how he can access the software we put on the admin account. I've done a lot of google searches but can't find the answer.

So anyone know how to let the standard user access programs that were added on the admin account?

Did I mention I hate Windows 8?!

I bought a windows 8 laptop around Xmas and after a Cple weeks took it back. I'm with you. I hate windows 8.

DH has a new laptop with Win 8...OMG it is confusing just to look at. I have messed with it some and I keep hitting something that takes me to a picture gallery, then I have to hit the window button to get back to the main screen, then the chrome icon to get back to where I was in chrome.

I am so glad I have a Mac.

Ditto! DH recently bgt a new computer w/Windows 8. To say he found it confusing is a understatement..;), but at 76yo thankfully he is enjoying the challenge :thumbsup2! Youtube has been a huge help to him w/tutorial guides...but it takes time and patience :goodvibes. As for me, I will keep my good old Windows 7 :). Good luck! Windows 7 wins.

Windows 8 fails.

To be fair to it, Windows 8 is fine as a tablet OS, but as a desktop OS it's useless. None of my learners like it (I'm an IT tutor)

I've tried out Windows 8 at Best Buy, and yeah it sucks. The fact you need a touch screen computer for 8 is stupid. I'm looking for a computer, not a tablet. For that money I could buy a Macbook Pro (which I want )

I've heard people say if your upgrading from 7, Mountain Lion feels more like Windows than 8 :lmao:

With the "Metro" interface, I don't feel that Windows 8 is actually "Windows".

There is a plus side though!

Now every one of my learners will need to re-learn Windows, which means more $$$ for me! :p

Quite frankly, Zorin OS - a Linux strain - is more like Windows than Windows 8 is!

Here it is...

Not my favourite Linux strain ever, but a great gateway OS from Windows to the many benefits of Linux :)

The thing that helped me with 8 was to download "classic shell". It makes 8 look like older versions of Windows. It beings back the start menu and the computer-after the initial opening screen- will go to the traditional desktop. It's free. There is a donation link but it isn't necessary to donate in order to download it:

You don't really have to download something to make it look like an older version of windows. If you are on the apps screen with all the boxes there is a box at the bottom left that says DESKTOP. If you click that it takes you to the classic view of what Windows 7 looks like. Then to go back to the apps menu you just scroll your mouse up into the upper right hand corner of the screen and your side menu will pop up and you can go to START.

When I got my new computer it was very confusing at first. I hated it for about 30 minutes. But after you figure out how to navigate the screens it is not that bad.

I just think that Microsoft has bought stock in everybody who makes touch screens. That's what Windows 8 is all about, really. Fingerprints on the screen. Wow... how convenient.

a few quick tips
use the "windows key" , usually down below between the control and alt key
On the metro interface just start typing what you want
Hold the mouse in the upper right corner and see what appears

My DH loaded it on someone's computer who wanted it. He told her Norton 2012 was not compatible and that she would have to call Norton and see if they would give her 2013 (since she just renewed it). Well, her DS decided he would install the 2012 again and totally messed up the computer. He told her to call her computer friend and got on a plane and flew back home! She was not very happy. It took my DH some time to reload it and he had to call Microsoft for help. They were very helpful and then he called Norton and they remotely installed the new 2013 version. Hopefully that is the only problem she will have with it.

Absolutely, downloading classic shell is not necessary but I like having a shortcut to get where I want to go.
