Windows 7 questions

so my computer died, and i got a new one, but i am having trouble with the format of windows 7 from XP. I miss the old format, where you open a document and the left column had options to move files. I ususally was able to right click on a file, then a pop up would open up and i could select where i want to move it to . Here i have a bunch of files from my dead computer that i got onto the new one. but i can move them, but not to a particular folder. eg-i have some disney digital stuff that i want to set up into my Disney photo folder, but i have no options to move to that particular folder. i can move it to my pictures then i need to go to my pictures, and move it again into the folder, but i have set up a bunch of sub-folders so no i find it takes me 3 times to move it.

I also wanted to move from this computer and back up to my external harddrive, but it moves the folders, but doesn;t allow me to select where to move them on my EHD. So i have to open up the external and move them again.

This probably sounds too confusing but it also driving me crazy.. is there an easier option.
