DH is into mountain man history and has often expressed a wish to see the Wind River area. I would like to surprise him with a trip but am having trouble finding much info. I'm really, really not the mountaineering type and, to be honest, it all looks equally unappealing to me. Still, I would like to do this for him. Anyone been here or live in the area?

How's the weather in early September?

Where should we fly in? Salt Lake?

How many days? I think he wants to do a lot of driving with a moderate hike or two.

Where else would you go in the area? Park City looks nice.

Thanks!

I wouldn't want to miss Yellowstone if I was that close :)

Jackson, Wyoming and the Tetons are worth a visit. Yes, Park City is nice, and very popular (read busy, lots of traffic.) Yes, SLC is the closest major airport.

I did look at Yellowstone bit it's almost 7 hours away. I'm not sure I'm up to both. If I pull this off the plan is to have him think he's going to WDW and then surprising him. He feels about Disney the way I feel about driving 7 hours in order to stumble around atop a giant caldera. We (mostly I) were quite young when we married and didn't think to check on our vacation compatibility.

I just came up with this idea so I really know very little. Ideally, I'd like to spend some time in a more urban area. Although neither one of us gambles we love Las Vegas. It has shows, restaurants and lavish pools for me and Zion, Red Rock and Bryce for him.
