another vote for the newer one. Johnny Depp is brilliant in this. his facial expressions alone make it worth watching! I never thought I would like it...the trailer looked dark to me...but it is now one of my favorite movies!

Not arguing that Johnny Depp was not brillant, he was great. The "parent puking" thing, annoyed me since it was "The Witches" rip off.

I voted the original because it has always been one of my all time favorite movies. I loved the wit and charm that Gene Wilder gave the role. Some of my favorite quotes are from that movie.

" The suspense is terrible! I hope it will last!"

"A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men"

" You should never doubt what nobody is sure about"

" We have so much time, so little to do!" "Strike that, reverse it"

I could go on for days. The new one was brilliant too, but in different ways. I didn't think I would like the new one and frankly, I preturbed that they were even making a new one. I ended up really liking it though. It was different enough that it didn't seem like a "remake" at all.

The old one is such a classic and will always be my favorite, although I do like the new one too. The best part of the first one is at the very end when they are flying in the elevator and he says "You know what happened to the man who finally got everything he ever wanted? He lived happily ever after." I also love those songs.

I like them both for different reasons.

Willy Wonka I like because of Gene Wilder. He is an amazing actor and at the time they couldn't have gotten a better Willy Wonka. He looks like hes just mildly insane and that works for the part.

Charlie I like because they took the story and made it something new. Its not the classic remake, when you're watching it you don't think about the other one. I think Dahl would have liked this one too. And lets not forget Depp. He did a wonderful job with the part. He also appears mildly crazy, which once again, still works for this part.

So I like them both. But htey can't be compaired. Its apples and oranges.

I prefer the new one. I love Depp's facial expressions, sarcasm, and mannerisms. I like the beginning with the "small world" dolls and how he is applauding his own show. The doll hospital is a hoot- and how he absolutely can't stand Mike TeeVee.

New one. Because it lacks disgusting chocolate river, annoying songs (especially "Cheer up Charlie"), and it has cooler oompa loompas, and it has Johnny Depp in it, what more could you want?!

Gene Wilder will be the only Willie Wonka for me. I love Johnny Depp in other films, but his Michael Jackson impersonation in this film was just too wierd. Also, I didnt think the new one had any heart, like in the original when Charlies mother is singing to him "Cheer up Charlie" The one oompa loompa was strange too, i liked seeing the different ones in the original, and the kids in the new just imitated the original kids. The original Verucka Salt was hysterical when she sang "I want it now!!!"

The old one was good, but it kinda scared me. I couldn't stand the part were Charlie cheated. Charlie never cheated, but the old one was good too.

Definately the newer one and I loved the songs but I also missed the old songs too. Also, Willy Wonka in the old one was really annoying how he kept singing and also he looked like my college teacher who I hated

I think its quite unfair to compare the two as they are both fantastic films.

I am giving the edge to the 2005 film, but like I said I love both of them.

While I love the original, I have to say that I prefer the 'newer' one. It just seems to hold more consistently to the book. If I'm remembering the book correctly (and it's been quite awhile since I read it) it is pretty dark in places. I loved how they make Willy Wonka change, ever so slowly, in the Depp version. I love them both, but tend to agree that it's almost comparing apples and oranges.

I never liked the older one. It used to freak me out. I saw the new one because of Johnny Depp and thought it was good.
