I voted for liking them both equally. They are two very different movies, and I liked that. There are elements of the original that I just love and missed in the new one, but I really like some of the things they introduced in the new one, like Wonka's background and the follow up after the end of the tour of the factory.

I've never read the book, but knowing that the darkness of the new version was more true to the book helped me like the movie more. It's a pretty messed up story no matter how you look at it. :)

Johnny Depp and Gene Wilder were both perfect for the style of movies they were in.

I was so set against watching the new one because I love the old one so much, but after watching the new one I have to say I like it better. I like how it was truer to the book. And I must say, did anyone else find after watching the new one that the old Charlie was somewhat whiny and felt that he deserved to have the golden ticket? This new version of Charlie showed a loving, selfless child who would gladly give up the golden ticket for the well being of his family, even though it was his hearts desire to find it.

I finally saw the new version last night and I loved it, but I liked the original better.

Both. My passion for Gene Wilder is only equaled by my passion for Johnny Depp but there is and will be only ONE Willy Wonka and that is Wilder. Oooooo, them eyes!!!!

I like them both, but if I had to pick one it would probably be the original. The new one was good, but those scenes with a young Willy in that dental/face mask contraption really weren't necessary and knocked the new version down enough to keep the original at #1 for me.

This remake got me to thinking though...do you think they will ever remake The Wizard of Oz? Or is that classic just to untouchable to attempt a remake.

I hope not - definitely too much of a classic to touch.
