I've searched this forum and the Williamsburg info is dated July '02 and before.

I've been laid off for over 1.5 years but we still like to go on vacations. We're going to Wash DC and Williamsburg in July '03. We can no longer afford Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton, or Marriott. I'm looking for places under $100/night for 5 people. One is still in a crib. Can somebody please tell me how they like or dislike Red Roof Inn, Econolodge, Motel 8, LaQuinta... at these 2 places?

I'd like to have a microwave and fridge at both cities.
Or does somebody know of any coupons/specials from the "nicer" hotels that will bring it down to under $100. I don't like to do Priceline because I may need to cancel up to 3 days prior to leaving.

In Wash DC, I'd prefer to stay near the Metro Line.

Any special deals on Williamsburg Busch Gardens?

Thanks in advance!!!!!

I stayed in a nice Doubletree Hotel in Crystal City (Arlington Virginia) a couple of years ago for about $69 a night during cherry blossom season. It was only about a five minute walk from the Metro and the Fashion Mall, which has some great choices for dining.

I know you said you can't afford Hiltons, but depending on when you are going, you might be able to get a rate right around a $100 at the Hilton Garden Inn in right in DC. It's in a great location, a 10 minute walk to the White House and the Mall, and right across the street from a Metro stop. All rooms are equipped with a fridge and microwave, and they even have a small indoor pool. I checked some dates in July out of curiosity before typing this, and the rate was about $103. If you figure in the Metro costs from a cheaper place, you might find it more economical to stay right in DC.

Hope this helps.

Try hotels.com. I have heard people have gotten great rates on there. And I have talked to a few people that have used it so it's not just the commercials that are saying that!

At Washington DC for 5 nights:

Virginian Suites for $74.50/nt: 1Br suite and full kitchen with sofa bed and free parking with an outdoor pool. It is located 4 blocks from the Metro Line. For additional $15/day, I can have free full breakfast.

At Williamsburg, Va for 5 nights:

Country Hearth Inn for 45.95/nt: 1Br suite and full kitchen with sofa bed and free parking with an outdoor pool. This comes with free continental breakfast.

Both of these are only 2 diamond hotels and both newly renovated. I'm worried mostly about the one in Williamsburg. All the hotels nearby are 2 diamond and not chain recognized motels.

If somebody has statyed at these places, please give me your comments good or bad. I want to stay at a roach free place since I've got a baby who puts everything in his mouth!!!

We used Priceline in Williamsburg and got the Embassy Suites for 4 nites for $79/nite. It was a fantastic deal that includes a full buffet breakfast and happy hour free drinks. Had a 2 room suite, separated by french doors, microwave, fridge, eating area, 2 tv's, 2 queen beds + a sleeper sofa, PLENTY of room. It rained for 2 days and we decided to stay an extra nite. For the extra nite we had to pay rack rate of $189. Priceline is great as long as you realize that you can't cancel once you make the reservations.

In DC, we got a good rate by staying a little farther out. We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott in Landover. The metro stop was right across the street.

Bob NC,

That's where I want to stay because it had been highly recommended. My best deal with them is $179/night. I'm afraid to use Priceline. I really need a microwave and a fridge plus I want a 2 room suite!! What "picks" in Priceline did you choose to get Embassy Suite. Do you know who are the other Hotels competing against ES?

Also I may have to cancel at the last minute. How many days prior to your visit did you do priceline?

I researched about the Virginian Suites in Arlington. They are highly recommended. So I am quite satified in staying there.

While you were in Williamsburg, where did you go? Do you think it's worth paying to see all the museums at the W, J, and Y? I have a 12 yo who is a war freak (in a good way). So he is into history. My 5 yo will be bored to death but he's free. Of course my 1yo won't remember this trip.

What deals did you find for BG?
