We are thinking of traveling to the Williamsburg area for a week at the end of July. We would like to go to Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens along with spending a couple of days at Virginia Beach. We are traveling with our travel trailer. If we stay in Williamsburg, how long would it take to drive to Virginia Beach for a day trip? Is it better to do a split stay? I hate moving mid-trip, but I also don't want to drive more than 1.5 hours to commute. Thanks!

You would be better off I think with split stay because you will be here in our tourist season and the traffic on interstate will be at its peak not to mention the tunnels. Have a great stay.

This, absolutely. Most of us who live here who don't have to take the tunnels during tourist season, don't. Traffic congestion can become a nightmare in a hurry. If you're here during the week and can make the move midweek and midday, no worries. Avoid the usual urban area rush hours. Worst weekend times are Saturdays outbound from VA Beach and Sundays heading toward VA Beach. All that aside, c'mon over. It's great here.

We were down there a couple of years ago 3rd week in July. It was unbearably hot - worse than Florida in August. It is about an hour on a good day to drive to VA Beach from Williamsburg. We did it during the week and didn't have any issues with Traffic. It was the wrong day to go though as it was very windy that day and it broke my beach umbrella and we didn't stay long as my DD had a horrible rash over her body and was miserable and it was her birthday. I don't think I will ever go back. Disney has ruined me for going anywhere else. Even last year being at Universal, I kept comparing it to Disney and hated it. Was not impressed with it. We were also bored as we did 3 days in Busch Gardens didn't need anymore than 1 1/2 days and a couple at Water Country. I wish we had gone to Kings Dominion. We didn't get to walk all of Colonial Williamsburg due to my DH's handicap and it was just too darn hot to be outside.
