In the historic area, I'd recommend Kings Arms Tavern (you'll need reservations) as well as Chownings Tavern (seated first come, first served). Christiana Campbell's is supposed to be reopening this fall, but there isn't an opening date for it yet.

The Terrace and Goodwin Rooms at the Williamsburg Inn is very good for breakfast and dinner (though pricey). Breakfast is first come, first served (and very, very tasty). Dinner is by reservation, although sometimes you can get a seat at the bar without and order off the dinner menu.

At the Williamsburg Lodge, Traditions is good for lunch (they also serve breakfast, but since I usually stay at the Inn, I have breakfast there). Also at the Lodge is Sweet Tea and Barley. I believe they share a kitchen with Traditions so the menu is very similar. They're open for dinner and also a good pick.

In Merchant's Square Berret's Seafood Restaurant is very good. You'd also need reservations there.

If you're looking for something quick, there's outdoor dining at Chownings Tavern with quick fare like hamburgers and hot dogs. There's a grab and go location at the Lodge (The Cupboard) and, in addition to baked goods, you can also get sandwiches and salads at the Raleigh Tavern Bakeshop.

The Cafe at the Art Museums of Williamsburg is very good for lunch. Another option would be the Gold Course Club House Grille, a short walk from the Williamsburg Inn.

When are you planning your trip? That would be a guide to must do's. For instance, the last weekend in May would be Drummers Call weekend. The first three weekends in December is Grand Illumination. There's also Garden Week, and CW Lights.

Aberdeen Barn Steakhouse - great old timey steakhouse
Blue Talon Bistro - tasty lunch spot near Colonial Williamsburg
New York Deli and Pizza - hmmm sandwiches. Almost my favorite.
Pierce's Pitt BBQ - love it. Might be my favorite actually. Ohh the hush puppies are so good.
Mellow Mushroom - freaky good pizza chain. Nice outdoor seating.
La Terraza Mexican Grill - solid Tex Mex
