Will you stay at the gondola hotels if they raise their prices?

There is no real reason to visit pop though unless you're staying there. No sit down restaurants there. No grand lobby to relax in. A few might come in to look at the theming. But that's it.

I doubt they will bring in lots of visitors to Pop, usually the Deluxe resorts get the most visitors because people are heading there for an ADR.

I see the gondola more as a novelty ride for some families who are not staying at the gondola resorts. That's why I think Pop and AofA might get more visitors.

Two statements that are currently believed to be accurate by the rumor mill:
1. There will be no bus for anything that the gondola serves.
2. The gondola won't have air conditioning.

Amazingly, most people are not concerned about it. I'm budgeting extra money to take the Minnievan.

I guess the people who are not concerned have never been stranded on an un-airconditioned monorail for an hour or so. That was bad enough, but at least it was mostly shaded inside. If these things are clear, that sun will be brutal for normal operations, but a shutdown of even a few minutes and I would be fainting from the heat.

I guess since two of my trips are usually in December and January, those months might be cool enough that it wouldn't be as much of an issue.

If the price was significantly higher at a gondola resort vs a non-gondola resort and the main difference between the resorts was access to the gondola, I would say no, the value wouldn't be there. Wouldn't stay.

Personally, the gondola doesn't add any value for me. I love Pop and would stay there over the other values regardless of the price difference (if it was a value budget trip). I have no desire to return to CBR so no I would never pay more for that resort.

No, DH is a skier and I've learned that gondolas bother my claustrophobia. A crowded gondola sends it into panic attack levels. I'm pouting hard that my go-to hotel for solo trips (Pop) is going to be on the gondola line. Does anyone know if Pop will still run buses to Epcot and DHS?

Considering that they'd have to pay me to use the gondola, I wouldn't stay at any of those resorts if the prices went up for that reason. I don't like any of them that much anyway and would rather stay at the Port Orleans resorts or offsite. Pop was fine but I don't like the new rooms.

I'm not sure I'd go on them if they paid me. I think the only way to get me on them is the same way they got BA Baracus on airplanes on the A-Team.

Really? I'd be shocked if this were true. There are plenty of resorts with multiple transportation options. I can't believe they would get rid of buses at these resorts.

As long as the sun isn't shining, it shouldn't be so bad. What I'm wondering about is a sunny day even in the winter. The gondola should have tinted glass that blocks out as much heat as possible. But even then, if the sun shines for just an hour, it can raise the temperature inside the gondola significantly. I'm specifically thinking about about if the gondola stops in mid air for minutes or hours for whatever reason, which is bound to happen sooner or later.

I don't understand Disney wanting a gondola system in the sunshine state. They call it innovative, but the gondola has been around for ages. And in all of United States, there is not a gondola that's built for mass transportation -- only for skiing or sightseeing. There is a gondola in London that is built for mass transportation. It is called the mayor's white elephant. It covers half a mile, is filled up to 10% capacity on any given day, and costed $80 million. It has AC. According to rumors, Disney decided that AC is not necessary because the vents will provide sufficient cooling. And it's no hotter than waiting in the hot sun for the bus.

I am very interested to see how the gondola is going to work out. Most people's logic is that if Disney does it, they must have figured everything out, so it will be OK. I'm eager to find out how hot will people get in the gondola, especially in the summer? How long will it take from Pop to Epcot? Will most people have no problems with the heat and just love the gondola because of the view?

I can't wait till next summer when we will know the answer to all this!

That's probably what I should do too. It's just that I go to Pop every year because it's my favorite resort. If the price suddenly increases more than normal, I would be rather resentful because I don't even like gondolas. But I should probably just pay up and don't worry about it.

I love Pop too! That's what I should do. Stop worrying about the price difference and just enjoy the trip. I'm just so used to such a good deal, having a value resort as my favorite! Oh well. All good things must come to an end.

According to all current rumors, no. The whole point of the gondola is to replace the bus. The gondola is supposed to be able to carry 5000 per hour; at that rate, there is no need for buses. But that's just the rumor; I'm hoping it's not true.

Sorry to hear about your claustrophobia. I don't have that, but I have a thing about stuffy air. And while I'm not afraid, I don't like small spaces either, especially if I'm crammed in with a lot of people and no air conditioning. When I travel from Epcot to DHS in the boat which has practically no AC, the air was always stuffy even though I stood right next to the back door that was wide open. Another time, I took the boat from the Grand Floridian to the Poly, and everybody sat up front where it was open. Nobody sat inside the boat, even though the front had no shade, it was sunny, and the inside of the boat wasn't too hot. It was just so stuffy! But that is going to be nothing compared to the gondola, which has no windows and only has vents.

Yeah, you wouldn't think so, but that's what all the gondola rumor posts say so far. Let's hope they are all wrong! I love the buses. People complain about the buses but I think they are great. My kids won't even take taxis, they like the buses' air conditioning so much. That blast of air conditioning is just magical! Although a few times when we got wet from rain and then got on the bus, we almost froze to death. Love it!

What do you mean, "as of now"? Disney is planning to run buses and gondolas at the same time at least in the beginning? Do you have insider information? You would think that's what they would do when the gondola first runs, to see how many people take the gondola, how many take the bus, and then decide if they should remove the buses.
I won't be near as freaked out about the gondola if they continue to run buses.

I am thinking of returning to a mod (CBR) because of the gondola. When traveling with my girls, both in their 20s, I HAVE to consider transportation. My oldest suffers terribly from motion sickness and we cannot stay at a park that offers only bus service or she'll be sick every day before we even get to a park. For this reason, it won't matter a bit if CBR is significantly higher than the other mods. What will matter is if the cost rises to near deluxe levels. I think my breaking point might be around $100. For less than a $100 dollar a day difference, I'd go deluxe.

I agree. You have people who have fear of heights, people with claustrophobia. I have a hard time believing 5,000 people an hour. I can see a mess at closing time. Plus I'm concerned with breakdowns.

From what I understand, there's a transfer station at CBR. So if you are coming to/from Pop/AoA or Riviera, you have to get off and get on another one for DHS or Epcot. Sounds like a pain.

I always look for value for money as well as overall cost when choosing a resort for a trip. I am taking two short trips soon, one with each of my kids to have some mommy and me time, and they really wanted Pop. The all stars were cheaper after discount, especially music coming in at under $100, but I don't feel as though my kids would enjoy them as much so I paid more for Pop. On my solo trip in August I was looking for convenience, comfort, and uniqueness so I chose CR. I can walk or take the monorail which makes it easier for me being alone and wanting ease of transport. I don't have to walk around a huge resort alone, and I can watch fireworks from my balcony in my pjs. The theme park view is considerably more pricey than a garden view, but I feel like I get more for my money choosing the room I chose. In October I'm going back, and while I haven't chosen where I'm staying I know that it will give me ease of access to Food & Wine, that's what is important to me regardless of price. So I choose what works for each trip, usually regardless of price. Yes, some things might cost more, but if I have a perceived value in staying there on a certain trip I'll stay there regardless of a rate hike.
