The days that I wil be traveling is a peak season. There is no Ent. rate for Hojo. The rate w/Dis 15% off is $153 for 2 Queen beds. BWPPI was $144 and Desert Inn Parlor Suite was $143. Shall I still go with Hojo?

You know, I would say no just because you get go to a hotel that is a lot shorter walking distance than HoJo's for the same price. Although, it depends. Are you going when it will be warm enough to enjoy Castaway Cove ? Do you have kids who would enjoy it ? Do you enjoy the grounds at Hojos ?

I would also say no. The main attraction to that place is the cheap rates! At least for me. I'd rather stay closer for the same amount. :)

I've stayed there at peak time and paid w/ the DIS or Laughingplace discount. It was worth it to us because at the time, some of the motels closer to DL told us they didn't allow people to check out and leave their car because of the limited size of their parking lot. You should figure out what time you'll get there, do they allow early check in/bag drop off so you can go to the park, do they allow late check out, and/or do they allow you to leave your car and do they have an area to store your luggage so that you can go to the park after check out. Believe it or not when I called around some of the other motels on Harbor a few years ago, all of them had issues with all or some of the above due to their size limitations. Hojos offers all those things. (There is a charge for late check out past 1pm, IIRC.) If you don't have a car, then there isn't anything to worry about except luggage storage. If they offer those things above, then stay where it's closer/cheaper.
Hojos Bld 1 is the only one in walking distance from the crosswalk that has enclosed corridors. I'm not sure if that is a concern for you, but it is a concern for my DH who insists he prefers to stay at Hojos. The others are built more like motel walk ups. We've always had good stays at Hojos and that's why we keep going back. If we couldn't get a decent rate on our next trip we were actually going to try CCI which is also highly recommended for similar price, offers free expanded continental breakfast, and has their own shuttle service so no need to pay for ART passes. However, Hojo came through for us once again, so we'll be staying there on our next trip.

Just a correction. Building 2 also has completely enclosed corridors. It is a 4 story tower, with an elevator, and it's our favorite building. The other 4 buildings (pavillion rooms) do have protected corridors, as in, the doors to the rooms are inside a protected hallway, not facing a parking lot or street. All 4 pavillion bldgs are surrounded by gardens, fountains or pool areas. The grounds and parking lots are protected by security guards 24/7.

And to answer the OP's question. Yes, I still prefer to stay at HoJo, even without the Ent. rate. Too many conveniences and amenities found at and near HoJo that I can't find at other walking distance hotels.

That's good to know. I've only ever stayed in Bld 1 -- gotta love that DL facing view!:thumbsup2 ETA: Sorry, when I referred to the others in my previous post, I meant the other motels in the area around the crosswalk.

Are you sure they won't have the Ent Rate?? absolutely sure? Because we were not going to go last July (for a last trip before our AP's expired) but they released the Ent Rate so we got a room for $59 and we went!! We were in a Pavilion room which still had indoor corridors. :) I would probably make a ressie at another hotel (I would probly try CCI or Tropicana) but I would keep checking the HoJo for the Ent Rate, it could pop up!!

I would. :) My kids love Pirates Cove (dh loves the hot tub), and we love the customer service and interior corridors. Also, our beds this last visit were incredibly comfortable!
The walk is easy and isn't an issue for us. Even with a hoard of kids like we have.

Thank you everybody for the great advice!!
I emailed to Lorealle if there is any kind of discout for the peak season. We're traveling after Christmas. My kids would love the pool area, however, Christmas time might be too chilly for them. I would like to try somewhere closer to the park like Camelot, BWPPI, Desert Inn but looking at the pictures, Hojo's room looks much better. I even found a cheaper rates at the Sheraton and Doubletree. I have 3 kids (1 in a stroller) so I want to avoid the shuttle...

If you have to do a shuttle go with CCI, their shuttle is free. :) Christmas would be too cold for me to play in the pool but I know my kids would love it so you never know!

We were just there Nov. 20-25. It was a bit chilly, the kids only braved the pool a couple of times, but we did use the hot tub every night. :)
As previously mentioned... the beds were SO comfy!! :cloud9:
We stayed in bldg.1 on floor 4. Not such a great view of the park... but decent. We did like the extra space over by the balcony door to put luggage. The room was a great size.
The "walk" to and from is really not that bad, but there were a few times I wished we had stayed at a hotel a bit closer.
A few pros and cons... hope this helps.

Well, for one, hojo is NOT that far from the other hotels. It's MAYBE 4 extra minutes to the parking lot. The biggest part of the walk out of the parks is to get through the hordes of people leaving, getting out onto the walkway and dodging everyone, and crossing over Harbor at the Disneyland entrance.

The crowds add time.

And that's the longest part, distance-wise, from my experience.

After you're across the street, it's about 4 minutes up to HoJo.

If you're staying at hojo and don't need/want to stop at any of the restaurants along the way (Millie's, Mimi's, Mcdonald's), you can skip those teeming hordes by not taking the walkway everyone is on, and especially with 3 kids and a stroller, that's nice! Once out of the esplanade and past the ticket booths, instead of following everyone to the right, you go over and around to the left, down a nice quiet shuttle arrival "island", go through the taxi waiting area, and then you're on the disneyland side of Harbor, where almost no one else is. You can look over and laugh at the people getting "flat tires" from the strollers behind them, having to be careful to not do the same to those in front of them, having to wait for cars (or delivery trucks in the morning!) to get in and out of the hotel driveways, etc. Then you cross over Harbor up at Manchester, sure, 4 minutes after you would have been at Desert Inn, but a lot HAPPIER. :)

I'm not sure if they are finished with their bed switchover, but they've been putting the same beds that Westin's Heavenly Beds are, and I know that they are COMFY. (experienced at Westin, not hojo yet, haven't stayed in a re-done room yet)

You have to take everything into account, not just sheer closeness, b/c a yuck Motel vs a nice Hotel can make up for that extra time. Now, a significant price difference can make up for it, see my recent trip for that! :)

I also wouldnl't give up on an entertainment rate, though it's quite possible that travel time won't get the rate. I once saw the rate pop up for my travel time in under 4 days to go! Alas I had booked the (icky) Carousel through Orbitz and it was too late per their policy to cancel so I coudln't take advantage and paid almost double what I could have paid with hojo ent rate.

Be sure to check out your travel plans for the whole year, and if you even think you might come back inside the 365 days from the start of your trip (start of this trip to end of other trip, that is) you might think about someone, or all, upgrading to an AP, b/c the AP discount is 20% instead of the Dis 15%.

Only reason we didn't stay at HoJo this time was b/c the AP rate at PPH was just about what hojo was offering when we booked, and by the time the ent rates started popping up, we had already made our plans (two MM days). And, of course, my book still has not arrived...shipped Nov 25, argh. And we didn't stay there the night before our PPH stay started b/c I got a smokin' deal through hotwire...about the same base rate as Motel 6, and ended up at the Hilton at the Convention Center...nice rate for 6 hours of sleep!

Originally I said no but I changed my mind. I haven't even stayed there yet but after talking on the phone with jennifer and how friendly and nice she was...went out of her way to put in a room request for us, just seems to helpful. Nothing but good things to say so far. So like Molly said, if you can walk just a tiny bit further it shouldn't be a big deal. :)

Thank you you guys!! I think I'll stay at HOJOs.:) Almost all of the reviews that I read are positive and I think I'll regret myself if I didn't stay there. I'm really looking forward and hope that some of the days we stay, it would be warm enough for the kids to enjoy the pool area. Also I will have a chance to dine at Mimi's too.

Thank you Disers!!:yay:

There are much nicer hotels in the area for the same $$ as the HoJo normal rate. I know many of you on this site like to walk to the park, and I fully respect that. I admit my family are bit of hotel snobs, so we will drive or take the shuttle to stay at a little nicer of a hotel. If you, like me, are willing to drive or take a shuttle to the park, there are a lot of similarly priced hotels a little further away that are, IMO, nicer than HoJo's. Again, this is just my opinion. To each his/her own I say.

Will you tell me your recommendation? I just saw $147 for Kids suite at the Hyatt. But that's pretty far, isn't it?
