the race today???? I only caught it because of my DBF' father was watching it but man it sucked!!! all those tires and no one to buy them and turn them in to a table!!!!!

I was sooooo disappointed! I actually had two tickets to the race, but gave them away as a wedding gift. Glad I didn't go, I watched about half on tv and was just so bummed. Spent the Sunday afternoon working on my old hot rod with dad. Such a great time in Indy!

My brother-in-law was there and he had a great time, but mostly because he had fun listening to the drivers and crews talking about how screwed up things were. He's gone pretty much every year and he said this was the best one, but mostly because of the drama the tires caused.

I saw part of it on TV and I stopped watching. It was terrible on TV.

Saturday night I went to Beaver Dam for the local dirt races, they had 110 cars spread over 5 classes. The racing was awesome and we had a great time. Way better than the NASCAR race.

BTW, we come down every year for the 500, but spend every night at New Smyrna for the short track races. I enjoy that as much as the big track.

well at least you spent some good time with your DAD!!!

I still can't believe they didn't test the tires but it mad for good entertainment when DBF's father was yelling at the tv:laughing:

It was really disappointing - I hope it doesn't affect attendance for next year.

DH won a local radio contest for free tickets to the Kroger 200 Nationwide series the night before at O'Reilly Raceway Park, just down the street from us. the station said it included a meet and greet with some drivers. When he and DD got there, they discovered they were on the podium during driver intros, right next to the sponsor reps! They said most of the drivers were super-nice, especially to DD (she's 8, and was wearing a Danica Patrick shirt, which the drivers got a kick out of).

Here's a photo of them -- DD is the little blond girl in the back, and DH is the tall guy with the ear-to-ear grin shaking Mark Green's hand.

Very Cool Prose! Bet that was fun!!

I heard some talk today about the reason the track was so bad. Usually their are prior races at Indy before the 400, this helps build up the rubber on the track before the Sprint boys get to racing. This year there were no previous races, and having new cars, and a new tire, just made for a disaster. NASCAR does pretty good, and GOODYEAR to so I guess like the old sang goes, you can't win em' all!

Next year will be good, and I'm not discouraged in any way! :thumbsup2

Awesome Prose! That's a nice photo.

Hope next years race goes a little smoother.

I had to look up what you all were talking about, and I feel really bad for all you fans. One writer in Florida called it a "Gong Show on Wheels" (the reference is probably lost on you, Will, since you're such a youth...now it's your turn to have to Google something!)

Hee hee...Deb..drag...racing...you made a pun :jester:.

Will --they said it was VERY cool. The headlines in the Indy Star today are all about how NASCAR is admitting it was a poor combo of tire and car, no fault of the track. I am getting a whole bunch more photos soon from the promotions people, so if I get any more cool ones with famous racers, I'll post...

What?! You spent all weekend in Indy and didn't call me!? We were up there for Kaleb's birthday...I could of stalked you for a bit. :lmao:

We were at the Indy zoo on Monday and Tony Stewart was there and I thought of you. I was visualizing your siggy to make sure he wasn't the on it. Other wise I might of had to go get a picture for you...thinking of it now I should of done it for John and Kevin! :lmao:

Tony participated in the Dolphin show and my boys thought that was cool he was a race car driver but I didn't know anymore than that ;) to tell them.

Did Tony get up under the dolphins, get 'em loose and put 'em into the wall? :rotfl2:

Here's the scoop Will,

There was nothing wrong with the track. It's just now sort of leaking out, but Goodyear produced a bad batch of tires that didn't allow any rubber to be laid down on to the track. The rubber was essentially turning to dust, hence people in the first few rows came away from the race covered in black dust (from the tires). I would venture to guess they didn't use enough bonding compound.

Back during the 1 test session they did in April, Dale Jr. was the driver and he indicated that there were some problems and Goodyear said it would be taken care of. Doh!!

There are no pre-races before the BY400, only practice and qualifying. The truck and Nationwide series races at Raceway Park, where that nice photo in this thread came from.

BTW, I'm just an all around racing nut, not just NASCAR.

Great pic! Very exciting to be up on the podium and to meet the drivers, yikes! Does your DD want to drive like Danica?
Looking forward to more pics:yay:

The non-pro photogs in the first few rows must've been sick when that started blowing their way. What a mess!

well it was a disaster of a race. But better than the F1 race with 6 cars the other year.

Nice to hear other race fans here :)

Hey Will didn't Pete mention you have a Mustang. I have a couple, so be interested in what ya got. FL seems like big Mustang territority. Esp for late models.

Hot Rod, what do you have? Are you going to the Hot Rod Nationals this weekend in Louisville, KY?

:confused3 I am not a race person, but DH told me that Tony isn't known for being very nice on the track...

he seemed kind of stiff, I have seen famous people that have great relationships and can meet fans and make it very one on one, you could tell he wasn't comfortable, they had some fans come up and do the dolphin training moves in the splash zone with him and the fans had to aproach him to introduce them to him. Which just seemed odd to me...he didn't say "hi" or anything and they were right next to him...There was one dad who chased him down for a pic with his son and Tony stopped what he was doing and posed for it.

But the majority of the people were there for the dolphin show, not for him, there was a very small section reserved for his fan club...I didn't know who he was other than Nascar and that was only because I saw fans walking around in his shirts. :teacher:

Being from Indy, you either grow up racing, or loving people that race. Since I never had the opportunity to get behind the wheel I developed a passion far all cars and racing. I love anything that goes fast, I'm into the Indy cars, Drags, and even love them short tracks where the locals tear it up. I've always had fun cars but lately I've been able to keep them. Me and my dad have been working on a 1931 Model A for a couple years now. I'll post a few pics. I have a 1987 Fox body GT. She is a little rough around the edges, but if it was easy and cheap everyone would have one.

sweet will. And it loooks like a ford motor in the A?

I've got an 84 5.0 & a 66 289
Fastback.

My dads got a 65 coupe & we have another 65
Fastback in process. When I get home tonight I'll post some pics.

I do love the fox bodies. I'd love to get another.

Good eye Lorax, its an 87 302 out of a Maverick rebuilt with some goodies in it. You really dont see a lot of Fords in these anymore. But its a Ford, so we thought it better have a Ford motor in it. I love love love the 302 motor. My favorite of all I think. I can get down with the old fastbacks.

Post some pics up I'd love to check them out.
