Will We Lose Our Points?

DH and I made reservations for OKW for next February at the 11 month window. We used a combination of this years points plus borrowed from 2003 so that we could reserve a 1 bedroom for 4 nights. This morning I learned that our Delta flight no longer exists and we are going to have to cancel the first night of our reservation when MS opens tomorrow morning. Since our reservation is a combination of current and borrowed points will we be able to cancel current points so that we can bank them or will MS make us cancel borrowed points? We will lose the borrowed points if we have to cancel them as we won't have a chance to use them before our use year ends.

Hope this makes sense and some knowledgeable DVC member can help us.

as long as you are clear, they will geberally try to do that anyway. You do need to be clear and tell them that you want only current year points returned to your account.

Then go online and check your point account....sorry, we can't do that yet.

I would ask what you points totals are when you make the call, ask what they will be after this change is made and then call back a week later and ask what you point status is and see that it matches what you have written down.

Or go online and check......nope, sorry, can't do that yet.

MS will be happy to help maximize your point usage. Just let them know your problem and they can make sure the borrowed points are used for the days you'll be able to travel.

They can reallocate points within a reservation to use current points (which can be banked- hopefully) for the cancelled day. At this point, there will be no penalty for cancelling.

Good luck!

I would just add that, after all the points are where you want them, email MS for a confirmation of your point balances. That way you have a printed confirmation of the changes.

Delta could have gotten us to WDW on the same date as we were originally scheduled but we wouldn't be arriving at MCO until 11 PM. That's a work day for DH so we couldn't take the early AM or early afternoon flights. He's a teacher so we have to leave after school. I didn't want to arrive at MCO that late and use Friday night points so we'll wait and go early on Saturday.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll be calling MS in the AM

I understand your point of view but wanted to mention that we had a similiar situation a couple of years ago. Our plane was delayed and we didn't arrive till after midnight. Actually, it was sorta nice getting our car and driving to OKW. No wait getting our car and no traffic on the way to OKW. Very relaxing. Of course, this was on a Sunday night and we weren't using those expensive weekend pts.

Another option is to stay at a hotel near the airport that first night and then go to OKW bright and early Sunday morning. Even if your room isn't ready, you could still leave your bags with Bell Services (or in your car) and enjoy the whole day.

Priceline is a good option when you just want a place to sleep .

Whatever you decide, have a wonderful trip!
