Will we like the seating Teppan Edo if we didn't like Biergarten?

I'm finalizing our dining plans for August since I can finally make our ADR's tomorrow! I'm worried about Teppan Edo though. It's just going to be DH and I this trip, we've always gone to Japanese steakhouse type restaurants with a big group of people, so we've never been the odd couple out at the table. We really didn't like sitting with others at Biergarten, but that may have been because the family didn't speak English and they kept looking at us and then laughing, so it was awkward to say the least. We love Japanese Steakhouses though, and have never been to Teppan Edo, so i'm torn. I've heard it's loud, so it seems I would really only be able to talk to DH anyway, do you think it'd be a good choice for us, or is there somewhere else that might be a better option that you can recommend? The only places in the WS we've eaten at are Le Cellier and San Angel Inn, we've been everywhere in future world.
TIA!

1) Teppan Edo is not really that loud.
2) And, yes, you WILL be seated with others.
3) Whether they speak English is an unknown.
4) If this is uncomfortable, I suggest Bistro de Paris, France, upstairs.

I think if you didn't like Biergarten because of the seating then the same will apply at Teppan Edo. Actually possibly more so as you are seated round three sides of the table, and it is if anything a bit more 'intimate'.
Last year we went to Biergarten and Teppan Edo and both times we were seated with people from New Jersey :lmao:

As a suggestion, if you like Japanese but want a more civilised atmosphere, then the obvious choice would be Tokyo Dining. We're planning on doing both this year :thumbsup2

You will be seated with other people here and someone will be on one of your immediate sides. DH and I are not huge fans of this, so we usually opt for tokyo dining.

When we dined at Teppan Edo in October we were seated with another family... they were very nice and their children well behaved.... so for us it was a positive experience..... but if that makes you uncomfortable I also suggest trying a different place.... Epcot has so many wonderful places to eat.... we enjoy Marrakesh.... great for a large party!!

Maybe you could try the Rose and Crown, make ADRS for 7:30 to 8 and you would be getting dessert around Illumination time, the wait staff take everyone out to a patio to view Illuminations or if you are lucky enough too get a patio table you could view Illuminations from there. In my opinion watching Illuminations from the Rose and Crown is the best view in the Worlds. We have done Teppen Edo in the Past there were 4 of us and another family of 4, the mother of the group got had just gotten a glass of wine and knocked it over onto the grill (she was probably the one to feel awakward) but the wine gave the steak and chicken a little extra flavor. If it was onlly ME and DW going and wanted Japanees we would go to Toyoko Dining which we want to get to sometime anyway.

First of all, that would totally freak me out if people were looking at me, talking in a different language and laughing!! OMG!!! :scared1:

My take on it would be that at Teppan Edo, everyone is facing the chef and watching what he's doing instead of just sitting across from each other looking at each other. I never have a problem with seating when we go to our local hibachi places, no one has ever bothered us. That said, since we DO have such good hibachi places at home, we haven't tried TE because we like to dine at places we CAN'T find at home. If you DO decide to try it, though, I'm sure you won't encounter people laughing at you again (well, unless you guys are just crazy out-of-control or something!)

Best of luck! :thumbsup2

I think there's a whole lot more personal space and "boundaries" at Teppan Edo than at Biergarten. At Teppan Edo, you will likely be seated at the ends of the table which also gives you a bit more privacy.

I've done both but I have to say, despite being a phenomenally shy person, I didn't get any wigguns about being next to other people. I don't remember the people from Biergarten, except that they had delightfully heavy Southern US accents (which is exotic when you're Canadian) but they complained a lot. Still, who's paying attention when it's time to get up and grab more wiener schnitzel?

I remember the couple with us at Teppan Edo cause they were so darn gloomy. That was distracting, but not at all off putting. And it was only distracting because Teppan Edo is a tiny bit quieter, much more intimate, and the meal is more slowly paced. There's more time to contemplate what's going on around you. So if you're worried about boundaries again, I don't think it'll suit you.

so what? people from new jersey aren't civiliZed?????? ironic huh? ;)

1) Not that.
2) It is the foreign accent.
3) At least foreign to Florida.

Really?? I think it's the North Jersey people. I'm from South Jersey adn I don't have an accent! :rotfl:

Plus I know so many people from NJ that live in Florida!!

I won't do Biergarten solo because I've seen reports on here from groups that were offended when a solo diner was seated at their table. But I'd do Teppan Edo. Everyone's watching the chef cook their food, and they're not so interested in having a conversation with or without you.

my husband and I were there last Septembewr and there was three different groups and one group had very limited english. it was mot uncomfortable because you are either eating or watching the chef.
