Will we have trouble?

Our WDW trip is in June and our youngest DD will not be 3 until August. I know kids under 3 are free for just about everything, but most people are surprised that she's not 3 yet because she is just so TALL! She's within an inch of my 4 year old! Has anyone ever been "questioned" about their child's age when getting tickets or at a restaurant? I don't want anyone to think we're trying to cheat, but I also don't want to have to pay for something that she is still "entitled" to for free.

(gawd, the things I worry about!!! DH just sighs and says, "3 more months of this????" :lmao: )

We had this problem when my DD was 33 months. I had a feeling that would happen so I just brought a copy of her Birth Certificate. After I showed it to them at the gate of MK nothing else was said.

I, too, have a tall daughter...at only 19 months, people mistake her for a 2.5-3 year old...we are going in September and I plan to take her "Kidz ID" along in case anyone gives us a hard time (shows a photo, birthdate and contact information.) There are several sites that will do kids identification cards for free or really cheap. In our town, they hang out at the grocery stores, children's stores or fire department during spring and fall.

You can also take a copy of the birth certificate (don't take the original in case you lose it) but this won't have a photo id.

I imagine the only thing you may encounter are some odd looks if people think your child is actually older than what she is. I can't imagine Disney fighting you on this but I also can see people cheating the system...

Good luck!

Actually, there have been some posts by angry people who were questioned at the park gates. If a CM truly doubts your child's age, they can make you buy a park pass. They will then re-emburse you when you show proof of age.

The first time we visited my youngest DD was 3months of her 3rd Birthday, I just made sure I took her passport with me wherever we went, and i think it was actually viewed once. princess:

We went the 1st time 2 weeks before my DD's 3rd birthday. She is tall and quite a conversationalist. No one ever mentioned anything or were we even
given a questioning glance. I would have had nothing to "prove" her age. i can't imagine having to. This time we are going 1 day before my DS turns 10 and that is quite a price difference with DDP. Of course they have his b-day in the system I would guess from previous visits? Anyone know?

This did not happen at WDW, but I do feel your pain!

My DH and I took our DS to the movies. He was 2, but just a few days shy of his 3rd birthday.

Well at the theater, 2 yr olds are free. 3 yr olds are not. So, the cashier asks me my DS's age. I state that he is 2 years old and he pipes up and say "nuh-u Mommy, I am three!" I explained to the cashier that he really was 2 and that his birthday was in a few days all the while my DS is saying "I three...I am three!" (except that three sounds like fwee!)

I would xerox the BC and take it myself!

Good luck!

I have read on here before that the CM's have a general policy of taking the guest at their word on the issue of age. I personally would not take a birth certificate or copy, as the risk of identity theft should it be lost or stolen. If you are concerned, have a picture ID made. Your local police dept should be able to do this for you free of charge.

I always take our birth certificates whenever we travel. It's just automatic. We don't have passports yet, but now that you will need one to even get into Canada, we will get them some time this year. If you would lose them, yo ucan order a new copy. Of course, there is the chance of ID theft too. But what is the chances of losing them in reality? Unless you are prone to losing stuff, the chances are low.

But what is the chances of losing them in reality?

Chances are higher if you are taking them to prove age getting into a park, and carrying them around all of the time. It's different that locking them in your glove box or room safe. To me, its just not worth the risk when it takes 30 minutes to have a pic ID made. I always have a new pic ID made each year, to have the pertinent info, fingerprint, and recent pic on hand, in the event something would happen.

Has anyone ever been "questioned" about their child's age when getting tickets or at a restaurant?

We went last year when my ds was almost three. We only had one CM ask if he needed a ticket. I think that was the polite way of asking if he was three. He just let us through. We didn't have any proof nor would I bring it.

My cousin's son is 2 1/2 but looks older than my 4 year old. She said the only time she's been questioned at the gate is when he's walking, if she has him in a stroller, it's never a question. She carries a copy of his birth certificate and is asked for it about every other time at the gate, especially if he's walking.

We've never had a problem with either child. Someone once said they don't question children in strollers.
We haven't had a problem in any restaurant either, even when using the dining plan.

Don't worry so much, you'll be fine. You won't need to bring the BC.:)
