Will we have trouble finding a place to eat....?

We are heading down on the October 8th and staying until the 16th. We have a few meals reserved--3 (mostly character meals), but nothing else reserved.

My question is this--Will we be able to find a place to eat basically when we get hungry? We are not that picky, we don't have a meal plan, and most meals other than in the evening don't have to be "sit down" type meals.

We are staying at the polynesian. Plan on visiting MK and HS the most w/ atleast one day at AK.

How benifical will the monorail be in finding a good meal? We do have the park hopper option as well if thats relivent?

Our family is soooooooo excited about the trip!

You may not get in to a TS where you want when you want, but you shouldn't have a problem finding a place to get something to eat, especially if you are fine with CS options. Searching Dinner for 4 on the 9th and 10th (which I expect to be the busiest days), yielded 47 and 51 options.

You sound flexible, which is good. No, you will have no problem finding a place to eat. You will only have a problem if there is a SPECIFIC place you want to eat. But if you stay flexible you'll be fine. There are plenty of counter services if you don't need to eat fine dining.

At MK you have several good options for counter service. Personally I love Pecos Bill. But others love Cosmic Ray's.

At HS you can get good pizza at Pizza Planet.

At AK I recommend Flame Tree BBQ.

Others will have their own recommendations, but rest assured you will not go hungry. And hey, if you do decide you want to eat at a table service, you can always take a swing at walking up and trying to get in. There are cancellations all the time.

We are going the same week and just booked a character meal yesterday. Availability for many places is still very good.

If you must eat a table-service meal every night for dinner, then you may have some issues. You are not likely to find a good restaurant with walk-up availability near where you are when you decide you are hungry. Now, if you are willing to check with guest services or the concierge in the morning to find you a place that evening, then yes, they should be able to offer you a few choices. They may not be in the park you planned to visit, or they may be at a resort instead of a park.

The good news is that you are staying at the Poly- when we stayed there last year during Sept. free dining, we were able to get into Kona pretty much any time we wanted to without ADR's. Same with Biergarten at Epcot, which is on the monorail. So there are two good choices for you.

Otherwise, there's plenty of counter-service food available and much of it is as good or even better quality than the table-service restaurants anyway.

Personally we're not fans of the food at MK, so we always take advantage of the monorail on those days. We like to take it to Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary. The park with the best food is definitely EPCOT, and even if you're not planning on spending much time there, I'd plan to eat there. If you want to eat a sit-down meal, I'd absolutely go ahead and make a reservation since you can always change or cancel it. Having the park hopper will give you more flexibility.

As for counter service having better food than sit-down restaurants, we just must not have found the good counter service places. If we're going to pay to eat at Disney, we'd rather pay for a sit-down meal than pay for overpriced counter service food. I agree that Flame Tree at AK has good food and Pizza Planet at HS is decent, but otherwise, ick.

If you have park hoppers, just hop into Epcot every night and eat at the Food and Wine Festival. There's more than enough food to hold your interest for several days!

Great idea! The F&W food is way better than most counter services. So if you can't get a table service and you have the option between counter and F&W - pick the latter.

I just got back from my trip sept 19th - 29th and we had issues with not wanting to eat where we had ADRs so we did alot of walk ups and it worked out great for us! But we ate late as we were wired to western time
