Will we get AP magic bands?

We are going in August and staying onsite. I already customized our bands for that trip.

But then I went ahead and purchased our new AP's before the price increase and just linked them to MDE (just the vouchers). They were all successfully linked.

Will I get the AP bands or do they have to be activated before we get them? MDE does show them as annual passes, so I wasn't sure if the system recognizes that and sends out the AP magicbands from that. :confused3

Thanks!

I am not sure the answer to your question but you will know soon enough either by an email inviting you to customize your bands or by seeing the opportunity to do so in MDE.

But, just to clarify, there is no difference in the AP bands and the ones you are already going to receive for you hotel stay. The bands are interchangeable and any bands you have linked to your account should work just fine.

The whole idea for sending out bands to AP holders is so that they can have bands even though staying offsite.

The only difference with AP bands is that, along with the bands, you get a slider that you can put on the band which says that you are an AP holder (that and $3 will get you a cup of coffee). You will also receive discount cards that can be shown for discounts instead of the AP pass for those who don't want to carry their pass in the park.

Yes, seriously, I just wanted the sliders....and I like the box they come in...:rotfl2:

I guess I will wait and see!!! Thanks!! :goodvibes

I think they have to be activated.

We ordered our AP bands....our APs were activated in Jan.
My DD just has a voucher and there was no where to put in the info for hers.

Mousemommy1 did you have the voucher for the AP from the Disney Store? If you did where/how did you link them to MDE? I have a ressie for onsite resort and just bought 2 vouchers but can't figure how to link them so I can make FP+ picks as I am less than 60 days out.

Emailed Disney and they were no help just said it could be done but didn't say how. Trying to stay positive but need some help.

thanks

I don't know the answer, but from my recent experience I'm thinking you don't get a Magic Band automatically if you ordered AP.

I am going in August and Sept. Both times onsite. Aug is spit stay (AKV and BWV). Right after I made those reservations and linked them to MDE I got option on MDE to customized Magic Band (one set for each resort!). I was also given a date that I needed to customize them by. At that point I had not yet ordered my tickets.

When we decided to go again in Sept. we also decided to get APs as that was best values. I ordered APs over phone and also booked Pop for stay in Sept.

I linked Pop reservations to MDE and got another option on MDE to customize bands for that trip.

When I got my AP vouchers I contacted Disney IT so I can link them in order to make FP+ selections before I arrived. My APs have been successfully linked, but no indication on MDE that I can customized Magic Bands for my AP. It really doesn't matter as we have more than enough Magic Bands...I still have out bands from trip last summer.

So that makes me assume that either:

you don't get Magic Bands for APs until you activate them or

MDE recognizes that I am staying onsite and am already getting Magic Bands so I am not offered ones for AP.

I really don't know...but it would be nice to get that slider-thingy for free!

I was told on the phone that passes must be activated before you will be able to customize and order magicbands. So you must visit the first time on RFID cards only.

Of course, they just announced offiste visitors can buy bands onsite. So why not allow AP holders to pick up theirs? Does not make any sense.

I just renewed my annual pass and I was immediately given the option to customize yet another magic band. Not sure if it is the same if you are a first time pass buyer but i would assume that it would be since I still need to bring my voucher to activate my pass according to the site.

MDE did not show that I had an AP band to customize.

I logged into the Passholder page on the Disney website...and there was a message to order my AP Magic Band!

I am looking to just link up my exchange certificates that I have purchased so that I can make my FP+ choices for my May vacation. I am staying on site so the window is open. I realize we will have to still turn in/activate the certificate/voucher when we arrive I just don't want to miss on getting the fast passes I want.

Mickeymommie1 had said she linked vouchers just want to know how and if her vouchers came from Disney Store or did she purchase on line.

Thanks

I was under the impression that an AP renewal is automatically from the expiration date, that you do not activate it. ????

Can you explain step by step how you found this? Anything I do to go to passholder pages ends up on MDE.

Well, I think I solved my issue with linking the voucher as the number needed comes from the payment receipt and not the activation receipt. I entered a long 20 digit number from the payment receipt and it took it and but could not update as the msg said server is down and update could not be process.

So, I think I am headed down the correct path now since no error received when entering this number just an error that updates could not be processed at the current time.

Crossing fingers and still trying to maintain a positive attitude for Magic Bands

I entered the numbers from the back of the green vouchers and that allowed me to link them. :goodvibes

I guess we don't have the same thing my is the plastic card from Disney Store. I am going to try the number on the receipt. If that doesn't work got another email from Disney with IT help number to call This 2nd email had more information and described my plastic card and said I would most likely have to call to get pass number assigned.
Thanks for the response

I am wondering a lot of these same questions. Sometime in the next couple weeks I plan on buying our annual passes through the dvc discount.. am I understanding that I will not be able to reserve fastpass + ressies until I am on property, when I can exchange my vouchers for my actual annual pass and get our magic bands?

In the past, I just exchange my voucher at guest services once I start my trip.

This is our first AP trip with magic bands, so I didn't really know how it works, however, I got the same green exchange voucher that I have always gotten, and I was able to successfully link those in MDE, which I am assuming will allow me to make my FP+ choices.

If you link the vouchers, I think you should be ok.

Now, I don't believe I will be able to access the AP website until my AP's are activated, so I probably won't get the AP band, but just the regular ones I've already customized.

I am purchasing my children their annual passes from AAA this week for our May off-site trip so I'll need to come back here if I can't figure out how to link them. Would love to hear of some magicbands available for vouchers but doubtful. I just know my kids are going to be jealous that we already have our bands and they don't (we went in Jan for the marathon). My only hope might be if we get our magicbands sent for our July trip before we leave. Anyone know if it's possible to use magicbands for AP & FP+ before your hotel stay?
