Will we ever dry off after Kali River Rapids?

When I rode in May, I carried plastic grocery sacks and put them over my shoes. I was ok if the rest of me got wet but didn't want my shoes wet. Worked great - tossed them when I was done. I got somewhat wet on my left side but it seemed to dry fairly easily.

Hmmm...we seem to have a different experience. Someone always get completely drenched. Yes the athletic quick dry clothes are great...but wet underwear is the main problem. A bra with any padding takes forever to dry leaving you with those wet patches on your shirt. So yes, we pack full outfits to change into and yes, someone gets stuck carrying a backpack full of wet clothes, but at least that quick dry stuff is light weight even when wet.

Nothing dries in FL no matter how hot it is. :D Even at the beach with a nice breeze swim suits stay damp for days. :beach:Unless you can stand to be in the air conditioned buildings where the polar temperatures help dry things out. :cold:

(I never understand why the AC is so cranked everywhere in FL. I hate dressing for the outdoors and having to bring a parka to survive dinner without getting hypothermia. )

(I kid Floridians, I kid.)

(Mostly.)

I rode Kali twice on my last trip and barely got wet.

If you're super concerned-wear ponchos and you should be okay. But I find in humidity I still feel like I'm wet, even when my clothes have dried off.

I usually never get really wet on KRR, but I did once and I have not been on the ride since. I had on denim shorts and they were drenched and I was miserable. The shorts never dried and I walked around several hours with wet shorts. My legs were chapped as a result. I recommend riding at the end of the day or bringing dry clothes. You probably will not get wet, but better safe than sorry.

I love KRR. Keen shoes, Tevas will dry quickly (perhaps and hour or so...) if worn without socks...

If you wear swim style clothes they may dry quicker. Gma / Gpa (if it applies) may want to wear a poncho.

KRR is the only reason we return to the hotel on any WDW trip...

We plan on bringing a change of clothes.

Is there a bathroom close by so we can change?

We just rode it last week, on two different occasions (different days). I don't know if they had made changes both of the days we went on it, but nobody got wet. Nobody. We were puzzled, as we've been on it many times and the people going backward down the big drop always get completely soaked. The first time we rode it, it was hot and sunny. My wife and I went down backwards and were ready for the big splash. Nothing...nada. Disappointing to say the least. Thankfully people were standing at the elephants and got us wet.

But yes, if the ride functions as it has in the past, you will be wet for a really long time. Probably not 4 hours, but I'd say a solid 2.
We rode & thought the same thing! Every other time we've rode somebody on the raft gets soaked! This time only a few splashes. I noticed the thing in the middle with the plastic cover was gone where you used to be able to put your backpacks etc to not get wet. I don't know how they could change it so you don't get soaked, but maybe they did. We always wear ponchos on this ride because with the humidity, your clothes take a LONG time to dry or they won't dry at all. I always laugh in my head when we get the comment "why ride a water ride with ponchos?"....I think in my head "you'll find out when you walk around all day in uncomfortable wet clothes".....chafing LOL.

I don't know how they could change it either, because I don't think the splash at the bottom of the drop is enhanced by sprayers. I always presumed it was from the boat hitting the water at an angle. The only thing I can think of is that my wife and I noticed the water level seemed significantly lower (and water flowed slower) than years past. Perhaps they lowered the level which makes for a much smaller splash.

Maybe they did it because people complained about getting wet. Which if so, totally boggles my mind. It's a ride in the water, specifically designed to get you wet. Each to their own, but I don't understand the mentality behind going on a water ride hoping NOT to get wet, or wear a poncho so you don't (I suppose if you don't like water and are with a big group??). But that's just me.

Your clothes might dry but cotton underwear does not dry if your soaked and it's humid! Wear moisture wicking clothes AND undies.

Agreed that underwear will NOT dry. Nothing more enjoyable (I kid) than walking around for a few hours in the Florida heat and humidity with soaking wet underwear lol. I could tolerate the wet shorts. Socks and shoes can be dried pretty effectively in a few minutes using an excelerator hand drier in the bathroom, but dry underwear is a MUST!

We all wear our sandals and clothes that dry quickly. We tend to be dry within an hour our so.

It depends...sometimes it doesn't take long, but sometimes the outer clothes dry quickly, but underwear stays wet. Not a great feeling.

I'm in agreement with several of the above; we try to hit Kali as the last ride of the day so that if we do get really soaked, we don't have to deal with it the rest of the day.

Let's see: recommendations so far are sandals, no underwear, no bras. Got it ;)

As for the discussion on missing the big splash: Just a few weeks ago, a couple on our raft got so wet that we joked that they needed shampoo. So I'm not sure why others have missed the big splash. Maybe it is related to fluctuations in water level.

We must be the rare exception but our AK day always seems to be the hottest day on earth everytime we go in August and we dry off fairly quickly. And we always get drenched

I've seen people use the hand dryers in the restrooms to help facilitate the drying process.

KRR is very disappointing and has got to be the least exciting and ugliest ride of its type. Grizzly in California is so much better and beautifully themed. Too bad they didn't just copy it.

Kali actually opened a couple years before Grizzly, so they couldn't copy it. But agreed that Kali is an ugly ride.

Our trip, end of last August, we wore dri fit work out clothing every day which really helped us stay comfy not only in the heat but the quick dry fabric was key with quick drying from sweat and wet rides.

You will bever dry in that humidity wearing most fabrics.

I got this tip from DIS!!

Remember most jogging shorts have a built in panty and workout bras are alot cheaper than making sure you own enough bras to have two a day. I just cant get anything to dry in the hotels rooms so washing them in sink and attempting an air dry is a fail. Sorry a bit off topic but i hope useful.
